Aftermarket Cruise Control

I don't even know if any aftermarket kits are available, but is there anyway to add cruise to a 97 PSD with auto trans? I use it for delivery 120 miles a day 6 days a week, and my leg is getting tired!

Re: Aftermarket Cruise Control

COOL!! I'm excited to start looking for a horn pad and get this baby cruising. Could you tell me what year horn pads will work for me? I was also concerned a little about the airbag....dont want to be messing around in there and have it go off!! Anyway, thanks for all the info so far, and any more you can shoot my way.

Re: Aftermarket Cruise Control

Well that makes things easier. Did they use the same dash in later years or something? I have an airbag light on my dash panel, but I did look at the steering wheel and it doesnt say airbag, or SRE or SRS like most do????

Re: Aftermarket Cruise Control

I wanted to add cruise to my truck after I bought it, so I had my wife call the dealer one day and ask about adding it. They told her I would need a new steering column, new steering wheel, NEW WIRING HARNESS for the entire truck, new computer, etc. etc. Quote was over $1500 just for the parts. Said the labor would be at least another $1500 or more. No aftermarket kits available for the Powerstroke.
So... I lived without cruise for a year or so until I found this forum. THIRTY-ONE DOLLARS LATER I had cruise control. Best $31.00 I ever spent!

Re: Aftermarket Cruise Control

I can't wait til the new horn pad gets here.....Thanks to everyone for all the great info. I have to say I'm becoming addicted to this site!! So let me see if I have this right......All I need is to swap my old non-cruise horn pad with a cruise horn pad, and then find the two wires that are black w/ a red tracer and brown w/ an orange tracer coming out of the Power Distribution Box, and make a jumper to connect these two? Sounds easy enough. I assume there are no tricks to hooking up the new horn pad wires on the back? Thanks again.....can't wait to cruise!

Re: Aftermarket Cruise Control

They just plug right in. To remove the old ones you have to depress the clip to get it to release just like with any plastic electrical connector. One of the easiest upgrades you will ever do.
