Aftermarket Tuners

Trying to get some feedback from others on what they think of a couple of tuners that are available. Which is better, the Superchips trimax microtuner #1705 or the Edge Evolution EEF1000. I have a 97' F250 that is used mainly for pulling a camper (6,500lbs) & general hauling. Just finished up the install of Diamond Perf. 4" exhaust & intake upgrade. Truck is just starting it's transformation from stock. Not looking to get too wild, but I can see how this can grow into a $$hog!!
Any feedback on those tuners would be appreciated. Thanks!

Re: Aftermarket Tuners

I had a Superchips tuner in the '97 250 that I owned before this 350. It sure wasn't wild, but it did give the truck a kick in the pants, power-wise, and mileage improved as well. It was a good investment.

Re: Aftermarket Tuners

Thanks! I actually have a 1705 that I got off EBAY that is brand new in the box & haven't tried it yet due to the fact that then it would be "used". Trying to see if the Evolution is that much better or not. I could always resell the one I have now or trade if there is much of a diff..

Re: Aftermarket Tuners

get the edge my friend!!!!! Just don't run the 100hp unless you got a big filter and injectors to handle it.......I get more out of the 80hp then the 100hp.....i must not be "worthy" of the 100 hp yet. Plus the edge is and actual 65,80,100hp at the rear wheels the super tuner is just fly wheel hp and it only goes to actually like 29hp at the rear. So in my opinion get the edge it's wild!!!!! Re: Aftermarket Tuners

i tried both the scmt and the edge, edge won hands down. You will not see 80 or 100 hp gains, unless you upgrade injectors. 60 rwhp is even pushing it, as max rwhp for 94-97's is only 200- 225. Edge did however work very well and helped out a ton power wise.

Re: Aftermarket Tuners

I just got an Edge and It is a first class product. I cannot believe the amount of power these trucks can make and I've only got the stock injectors for now, Should have some babies in next weekend. I have only put it in race mode and get 22lbs of boost and 900 on the pyro Full Throttle. I would highly recommend it!! Plus for just having stock injectors it throws quite a bit of soot! Re: Aftermarket Tuners

Sounds like most people are very happy with the Edge. I did talk with someone(who will stay nameless) that sells alot of aftermarket products & he told me that they quit carrying the Edge lineup due to all the problems they were encountering. Sounded like they had a few trucks that ran into transmission problems after adding the Edge tuners. He didn't say what year of trucks or makes, but it left me with the impression that there might be some issues with the programs that Edge has written. Don't know that for sure or not. That's why I am looking for input from the experts!

Re: Aftermarket Tuners

The trucks with tranny problems were probably the late model 7.3's because they can make a considerable amount more hp with stock injectors than us. I ran my edge on extreme over 50,000 miles last year with most of them heavy towing and no tranny problems .

Re: Aftermarket Tuners

Thanks Hardcore_4X4, I was trying to find out some info. on where the gains are measured. I'm not bad mouthing either manufacturer, I have tried contacting both via email & left voice mails, but have not had any replies back yet. Superchips shows their outputs for the 94 1/2-97 but doesn't say if it is flywheel or rear wheel. Edge has dyno charts but the graph is the same for a 97' & a 2000. I know I will not get as much gain as with the earlier model trucks. I want the data to do a side by side comparision.

They used a 97 California model with split-shot injectors (same as the SD's) to get those numbers. We will only get about 60-70 RWHP out of our stock 94-97's non-Cali models.

Re: Aftermarket Tuners

So does anyone know anyone else who might be interested in doing a trade of a new Superchips 1705 for a Edge Evolution(would prefer new, or like new condition)? The Superchips is actually the more expensive tuner from what pricing I have been finding.

Re: Aftermarket Tuners

Daveo,
I may have an edge that i've had in my posession for like 2 months. It's in spankin new condition and I have the box and even the manual and the sticker it came with it's mint. I may be willing to part with it if you would want to trade your suoer chips strait across. I'll have to wait till the end of the week tho to know for sure if I can hook ya up.

Re: Aftermarket Tuners

That sounds like something I might be interested in, I got some info. off the box, it says:"Superchips 1705 MAX Microtuner 94-03 Ford E, F, & SUV series 7.3L" It has the three levels of performance. Not like some of the people I have seen advertising their 1700's as 1705's.

Your Evolution is the EEF1000, right?

F.Y.I-I can only check my replies M-F, 8-5. No internet @ home.

Correct it is the EEF1000 and i'll know by the end of the week if we could make the swap.
