air filter screen, can it be removed??

dumb, question, but i'll ask can you remove the screen mesh around the outside of a paper air filter, or will that harm or cause the filter to get " sucked in " to the air box.... it just seems like it would get more air without the mesh....

thanks

You don't need it. I would reccomend buying a Tymar intake and throwing the OEM air intake away.

DO NOT REMOVE THE MESH....I have seen cheaper airfilters that come without the mesh have the paper sucked into the turbo and plug intercoolers on superdutys. That screen is critical to hold the filter together....as for tymar...only way to go. Tymar cut my filter usage in half do to filter lasting 2 too 3 times longer
