Power Strokes 1994-1997 Upgrades and AftermarketUpgrading or adding OEM or aftermarket equipment to your 1994-1997 Ford F-Series with Power Stroke engine.
Okay...I'm ready to replace my headlights up front. I'll be doing a lot of night time driving so, I'd like some great lighting so I can really see when I plow a deer.
I'm thinking smoked headlights/turn signals. Black truck! Any good experiences with a source for the fixtures themselves?
Suggestions/links for proper wiring harness (if needed) and bright bulbs. I'm not looking to cut corners or have to do a lot of wiring. I'm not the greatest in electrical work, but can manage with decent instructions. I'm not sure if I'm crazy about anything that has both the high/low beam running all the time.
And lastly, bringing up the rear. Taillights and third brake light. I don't care for all the crazy tailights out there. Something simple. Has anyone come out with a third brake light yet. 97 F350 OBS.
Headlight Swap How-To <----clicky I wrote it up, so if you have any specifics, PM me.
second, the headlights you will most only find on eBay. Its the easiest place to find them, go by their feedback (whats left of the feedback system at least) and buy from a place that gives a good deal with a warranty, or some kind of guarentee they will at least be to your house in good shape.
YES they make a third brake light for the 95+ OBS trucks. I have one...
Its made by Putco, you can find them on ebay real cheap ~$50.00 or buy one from a truck shop for more. Its LED (9 brake, 6 Cargo), and the cargo lights are actually useful, and the brake light is REAL bright.

Do you have a link to that particular 3rd brake light. It seems finding anything list for a 97 F350 is a pain.
Any suggestions on bulbs that work great..as well as whatever else I need. I've searched/read thru the forums quite a bit and can't find any real concensus.
What years of what vehicle parts fit the 97 F350 CC DRW OBS?

94-96 F150, F250, F350 third brake lights are the same, including the 1997 F250HD and F350.
1992-1996 F150, F250, F350 head lights are the same, including the 1997 F250HD and F350.
For bulbs, I had great luck with my PIAA's, Sylverstars are nice, but I was happier with my PIAA extreme whites.
I am running an HID setup now, but most people shun them because of glare.
And, does your Third Light look like this?
If it does, it'll fit.

Awesome info! I appreciate the help. I have all ordered already except for bulbs. I just need to find a source and purchase. I'd like as bright as possible, but don't want to be getting flashed all the time...unless it's a female and we're talking about clothing I would like to also upgrade whatever wiring needed to get the most power to the bulbs. Again...I'm not the best electrically unless my hand is held Is there a wiring upgrade kit I could/should go with?
Last questions. Did you use the stock bulbs for the turn signal/side marker? Is there a Vendor on this site that sells the headlight bulbs?

No Porblem!
The Bulbs you can get from a local parts store for your marker lights, you'll need to buy Amber ones.
Two styles of bulbs fit the markers (the lights beside the headlight and below/beside the headlight) I used 916's in my truck, they are a little bigger, and put out a little more light IMO. You can also use 194's. You'll need two packs (4 bulbs)
The Turn signal is a 3157 (below the headlight) You'll need one pack (2 bulbs)
All of those bulbs need to be amber.
As for headlights, you can buy PIAA's at a local off-road or 4x4 place usually, or performance shop.
The Silverstars you can buy at your local parts store usually, like advance auto.
Headlight bulb number is 9007 if you didn't know.
As for the aftermarket harness, I've never bought one, or even know of anyone that has them, I was hoping someone would chime in, you can probably do a search on this site for it, Cary T might even sell them, he would probably know where to get one at least.
I know they exist, I just dont know where to buy one.

it was my understanding that the F250-F350 psd's from 94-97 were essentially the same. How come everyone seems to sell parts up to the 1996's then group 1997-2003?
Thank you!
I am looking at lights and just don't want to end up with something that doesn't work!
Adam
Because in '97 they had two different F250s. The '97 F250HD was just like the previous model years, and the F250 light duty was more like the newer model F150, but with a few beefed up parts.

If you own a 1997 F250 or F350 always order parts for a 1996, otherwise "F series" in 1997 are all lumped into LD and you will get all 1/2T parts for the newer style trucks that aint going to fit.
