Attn: All CC aftermarket radios

I had an earlier post on problems with my aftermarket radio I was putting in. I couldn't find the right square plug to make the speakers work. Now that I found it and have it all mounted up. I can't get any sound out of the speakers. I remember reading something about a factory amp. Do I need to disconnect this to get it to work? Only thing I can think of why there is no sound is maybe there is a conflict with the factory amp?

Re: Attn: All CC aftermarket radios

if it does have a factory amp, find the power wire from the radio andplug it into the factory amp power wire i had to test a few wires to see which one it was. My buddies F150 was like that and i plug in the two power wires and it worked.

If you have the "premium sound package" you have a factory amp. If you have a square connector in the radio bay, you have the premium sound package. If you have two flat connectors, you don't.

The factory amp is silver and mounts to the firewall above and to the right of the accelerator.

All trucks have the two flat connectors. However, the premium sound package plugs one of the flat connectors into the amp, and the other one plugs into an extra wiring harness that includes the square plug mentioned above. So it's possible to remove the premium sound package by removing the amp and the extra harness; this converts the truck back to the basic sound configuration. It helps to have tentacles instead of arms and hands, as this operation requires a lot of work with short wires and small spaces.

If you have premium sound, you have three choices:<ul type="square">[*]You can buy a wiring adapter that is specifically for the premium sound package. This adapter will continue to use the factory amp, so if you have a super-duper new stereo and you think its amp is better, you may not like this option.[*]You can jury rig your own wiring adapter, similar to the first option.[*]You can remove the premium sound package as described above. This will allow you direct connections to the speakers, instead of going through the factory amp, and thus allow your new super-duper amp to shine. However, this is not for the faint of heart or large of hands.
Hope this is helpful.

Re: Attn: All CC aftermarket radios

I had this exact same situation. THe kid at Circuit City said the adaptor connectors are always too loose. He fiddled with the connectors to try to bend them to be more snug and they started working. It took about 30 minutes of screwing with it to make it work. I did not bypass the factory amp or make any modifications other than the head unit itself. You may visit with the store where you bought the adaptor to see if they will help.
