Auto trans 80 econo PCM question

i went from a 95 TEE5 PCM with a 1998 hypertech chip , to a econo flashed TDE1 from DP Tuners. With the old pcm and hypertech , trans shifted nice and hard like a shift kit with the new PCM , trans just kind of shifts softly or mushey both reg acceleration or a harder acceleration. . Is this just the differences in the programs or is this a trans issue. feel free to question me for more details , as I would like to understand this issue as I don't want any trans surprises.

Re: Auto trans 80 econo PCM question

The PCM controls how hard the trans shifts, so changing the PCM can make the trans shift softer.

Re: Auto trans 80 econo PCM question

Dave, no doubt the hypertech chip had some line pressure increase built into its programming. As many times as you ran the truck with and without the hypertech when you were chasing your problem, can you recall how it shifted on the stock pcm? I'll bet Jody's econo burn keeps line pressure and shift rpm's on or very near stock. The most cost effective way To get the crisp shifts back without a reburn, (and your tranny will love you and maybe hang around longer ) would be to install the tricumlater/sonnax kit. I think it's about 50.00 bucks.(someone will post where to buy), next would be a reburn (lot of expierimentation and that means shipping the pcm back and forth) Or you can go with the factory tech (or BTS) valve body, but you're in the $225.00 range and sometimes these have to be tweaked to get them right for your needs/wants (tweaking is free from Bob Riley/Factory Tech). Hope this helps ......

Re: Auto trans 80 econo PCM question

Hey guys thanks! Jim thanks for the info and pricing. Hope I didn't sound like I was complaining , I just want to ease my mind that my trans is ok and the new program is the reason for the softer shifts. When i got the truck 100K ago it had the chip so I really wasn't used to anything else , the time I drove it around with the chip out really sucked , and it had that stalling problem. I did some searchs on trans and still had some questions ,but it does seem like alot of guys use something other the the chip or flash to stiffen the shifts. As for now I am happy that I am mobile again. thanks again! Dave
