Auxiliary Fuel tank gravity feed system

I am in the midst of installing a Combo fuel tank-tool box with a gravity flow to my front tank.
I'm a bit baffled by the filler tube on the truck. It looks like there is a small hose inside a larger hose. Anyone done something similar?
Is the inner hose necessary?
The newer trucks have an external vent.
I have a kit which will fit the outer hose, and it has a check valve included.
Help!!

Re: Auxiliary Fuel tank gravity feed system

would check.. in Calif its illega to do a gravity feed from one tank to the other.. i think the little hose is the vent.. if i was going to do that.. (some day i will) i would do the fuel tank mod where you get rid of the vent in the fill line and add a 1/2 or 5/8 vent.. by replacing the roll over valve..

Re: Auxiliary Fuel tank gravity feed system

I tied mine in the main fuel line after the switching valve, it will feed either tank I'm on. Just got to watch about running it dry as it will put air in the fuel system. I use a mechanical valve mounted to the floor I can open or close the aux tank.

I finally figured it out. Followed Part of the mod for venting the filler tube, and pulled out the inner tube. Then cut the outer tube and inserted the adapter. Cut out about 2 inches of the outer tube, and fastened the rest of the outer tube to the other end of the adapter. Initially tried to reinsert the inner tube through the outer tube and the adapter, but ran into too much resistance. I finally greased the inner tube and it went all the way in. Reattached all the clamps and screws, and went to the Station to test it out. The Front tank fills fine, and after putting about 10 galons in the Aux. tank, it seems to be working fine. It topped off the front tank, and did not overflow. I have Pictures, But I'm not sure how to attach them to this message.
Any help?
