Can ball joints be replaced at home? Any special tools needed? I have a D60 to swap for my D50 but want to keep the steering knuckles and brakes from the D50 and install new ball joints.
Also, does anybody sell all the parts I need to rebuild the D60 (ball joints, bearings, seals, etc.) as a kit?
I Have done mine and parents f-350 this year the only special tool i needed want a ball joint removal/installation tool which is pretty much an overly beefed up C clamp. and available for renting at any o-reilly or advanced auto probaly others also and then up to a 1 1/8 i beleive socket ...i prefer 1inch wratchet and a biiig prybar to break em loose. other than that everything else is all sockets i needed no special tools except the D-50 D-60 axle nut socket
and as far as kits i dunno but ...axle seal, ball joints upper/lower, inner/outer bearings and races, if u want to spindle bearings, hub seal, new ujoints, nice warn locking hubs if you dont got em and ur smart ;> umm i beleive all that x's 2 i just got done rebuilding parents 95 f-350 d-60 and put in all that and i beleive total bill at o-reillys was 350 bucks

I have MileMarker hubs on the D50 and would like to swap the whole setup onto the D60 installing the balljoints at the same time. Sounds like it shouldn't be too bad. Thanks!
I have to ask. Why do you want to put the D50 knuckles on the D60? If it is because of the mile marker lickouts they will fit the D60.

I believe D60 and D50 are the same from the ball joints out. That should include knuckles, hubs, brakes, etc. I figured if I was going to replace ball joints anyway (preventive maint.), I may as well just swap the ends. The D60 I have doesn't have brakes, and the rotors don't look as nice as mine.
The D50 and D60 knuckles do NOT interchange. The spindles are the same to an extent. You can re-use your brake hardware from your D50 if the D60 is from '95-'97 other wise you need differrent rotors, calipers and hoses.
