Banks Chip versus Superchips Tuner?

My 96 F350 stalling issues appear to be resolved by pulling the old Banks Ottomind chip. I talked with the Banks tech folks who tell me "sounds like it could well be the chip at fault" but it's $150 for them to test the chip; and "it's so old" there's nothing to be done if found to be at fault, "Just buy a new chip" to the tune of $450.00. They tell me the transmission control module I have installed works independently.

$450 is pretty dear; I have a "locked" Superchips Tuner I use for obtaining DCI codes. My question is: Is paying the $100 to have the tuner unlocked going to give me anything close in terms of settings for better trailer pulling than saving my shekels and getting a new chip? Or are there other alternatives?

I would forget about the Super Chips programer and just purchase a TS style of chip. For close to $450 you can get one with multipul programs on it that would be a lot better than either the Banks or Super Chips.

It's better because it provides more programing modes than just a single chip, or the Superchips tuner--is that what makes that better?

With a actual 6 position chip you can has 6 different tunes available by just turning a switch instead of going through the process that you need to for a programmer. A TS style chip will offer you stock, high idle, no start, economy, and tow tunes just for a example where the Super Chips only offers a couple and you need to shut the truck off and connect the programmer to the truck to down load and upload tunes.
