I have a 3" downpipe (not a Banks...) and coupled with an aftermarket intake it is louder but only when your foots in it. Have to make sure you can bend enough of the firewall out of the way. I tried using just a big bar and some 2X's but wasn't enough, ended up using a power ??? used in body repair. (Brain fart...) If it touches the body you will get lots of noise. I went the cheap route of simply cutting my airbox open for awhile but ended up getting an aftermarket intake. Should have done it alot sooner! I did both at the same time so not sure how much noise comes from just the downpipe but mainly I can hear the turbo spooling up through the intake (which is a great sound!) Going the cheap route I would get an intake, downpipe and ditch the muffler (& cat if you can.) Those mods cost me about $300 which included 10' of 3.5" exhaust pipe. So far I've improved my milage, gotten ALOT more power off the line and even loaded fairly heavy can pass on long inclines without problem. Very noticeable power increase.

The only real way to add horsepower and torque significantly is to add fuel. However a DP is a pre-requisite to any mod on our trucks and will definately be a benifit to your motor. You may notice a little seat of the pants, but more so, egt's will be lower. There are less expensive DP's if you look around the site sponsors, this one has a cat delete also
If you really want some whine, replace your muffler with a section of straight pipe. Then put in a high flow Tymar type filter. Now you are ready for a chip.
I run a 5" straight pipe. I have turbo whistle right off throttle increasing right on up the rpm's and a very big rig sounding suck back sound when shifting.

The guys are correct, a down pipe is a MUST before you add any HP mods. We have a 3 incher that is one of theeasiest to install out there, it's available with or without the 2 bolt flange to connect up to the stock converter, we also have a cat test pipe for off road and racing use. Finally you can get an entire MBRP aluminized or 409 stainless systesm from us that has the 3 inch down pipe in it and then it is a 4 inch system from there back. Get that and a good programmer or chip and you'll get a ton more for you money HP wise. Call us if you have any questions etc.

iu was going to go with banks because they have a 2 piece design and claim to not require any firewall modifacations and it also has a bung for a pyrometer which i want to get in the future.
thanks for your input guys

My Bully Dog downpipe was a two piece design, I think every 3" downpipe made is going to require some firewall modification. Also the best place to mount your pyro is pre-turbo in your drivers side exhaust manifold for the most accurate temps. Hope this helps.

yes you do not want to get the downpipe from banks i mean its a high quality piece but have you got the price for it the gitkit is a little less then $700 and the downpipe itself is $298 and you really do want to put the pyro in the manifold not the downpipe
That's funny, because the instructions for thier kit very clearly state that you have to cut the body seam in a couple places and fold it over, maybe they dont consider that firewall. However, if you dont push the firewall back, it will vibrate against it, either under torque, or all the time.

Geoff,
Dale's # is 509-922-8785. You can double check the number on his website . I know he doesn't have online ordering but the education you'll get from him on the phone is worth every long distance nickel you spend.

Mine's not obs, but I'm running the banks power elbow and dp and have been for about 4 years. The power elbow does away with the ebpv and makes a nice sweeping turn instead of the sharp exit of the stock pipe. It also holds 3.5" all the way out. It comes tapped for a post pyro, and I think it is a VERY well made piece. Don't know if it's offered for the obs trucks, but I know the dp and elbow I got from Banks for my truck are some really nice pieces. I wouldn't worry about quality from Banks. Just have to decide if the price is right.
