Battery size

Can anyone tell me what is the largest battery series (size) that will fit in a 94 7.3 battery tray without extensive mods? I don't mind using a different tie down but dont want to start hacking anything.
Thanks,
Rob

it fits 65 series, there really isn't any more room for anything larger, the other thing you can do is add a 3rd battery along the frame rail under the bed. Ford use frame rail mounts on van-bodied cube vans, I have seen those mounted along the frame, looks great too.

Thanks, I will just go with that then. I have to replace them and didn't know if there was a larger one that would fit. Thanks again

There should be a lot of choices in the 65 series as to the cold cranking amps. Some almost twice as much in price as well as twice the amps, hot or cold.

65s are about all you can do. Its a Ford size. 27s and 31s are too long. 31s are also too tall. My buddy wore a hole in his battery because the tray doesn't fit a 31 properly.

I'm going to go with group 31 when I replace... move them behind my rear seat.

Hey, looking at your picture if I didn't know better I'd say you were driving my truck. Blue crew cab with white roof, bush bumper and headache rack. Thats funny. Especially since mine is in storage in Duncan while I'm away. They must be twins fell out of the same ugly tree!

I have 31s in my truck. I did have to do some mods but it was nothing too difficult. I just installed my second set a month or so ago. My first set lasted me 5 years to the month. There is adjustment in the battery trays that you can move them down further and then they aren't as wide so I stuffed a piece of plywood behind them to hold them in tight and wrapped a bungie strap around each of them.

i just put in fleet farm 1k cca's today wasnt to bad had to beat on the tray a lil bit to get it to fit them since they are about 1/2inch to long and a bit narrower than the tray but just had to bend the one side of the tray in a little bit to get it fit sung
the part number for the batteries is P31925A $85/ea
