Better Oil and Fuel lines to head? Ones that will not burst??
Just wondering if there are any good solutions to the High Pressure Oil and Fuel lines that go to the head. I think they're stainless braided line stock. Nothing wrong with this but is there something even stronger or more durable?
My brother in law decided on Dodge because he had a Powerstroke and one of the oil lines burst while driving (maybe it was fuel not sure) but it supposedly sprayed the turbo and started a fire under the hood. He said that was it with Ford. I have also had the fuel line burst before (the steel braid return line that goes to the FPR) and of course it sprayed the turbo like crazy. I had smoke but thankfully no fire... good thing because the valley was flooded with diesel by the time I caught it. And good thing it was just a short drive. Anyways, I don't want that happening again. Is there a good alternative to the stock stainless braided lines?

Ther is nothing wrong with the factory lines... it's just that when they get old they rot like anything else. I just changed all my lines with new OEM lines as preventative maintenance....Never had a problem just felt it was time to change them...I'm funny like that ....

I've been working on PSD's since they were introduced, I have never seen an oil hose burst. I have seen them damaged from someone working on the engine. I 've seen them with arc scars from somebody leaving live wires uncovered. The point is, I don't expect you are going to have trouble, if you are dead set on replacing them, get them from the dealer, these hoses are designed to operate under those conditions.
Before just having a hydro place make them up, I would get fairly educated on hose types, fluid compatibility, and more specifically the pressure vs temperature ratings. With hoses the maximum burst pressure is not necessarily (almost never) at the max temperature rating. The max pressure rating will usually be rated at something lower than max temp and will be substantially reduced as the operating temperature increases. I'm another who has never seen a stock hose burst (fuel or oil) without being damaged during repairs. O-rings at the connection points have failed in most cases I've seen. Cheers!

I haven't seen an oil hose burst yet. But I have seen first hand (in my van) the FPR return hose get a nice big pin hole and shoot atomized fuel (literally a super fine mist) all over the engine bay. It left in a 5 or 6 mile drive an inch or two of fuel in the valley pan and sprayed the hot turbo pretty good. The smoke from this was more than I was comfortable with. It looked like when you have a charcoal grill go out and you resoak with lighter fluid. That's always a toss up of if it will re-ignite without a match or not. But it smoked like that. Of course I wasn't going to light it, but the smoke from the fuel meant that it was close to a flame (I think).
So uncommon or not, it happened to my brother in law and it's happened to me. I'll definitely be replacing at least the fuel return lines. I was looking to see if there was an upgrade. The stock lines lasted 15 years (not bad). Seems like this forum finds improvements for certain items at times so I figured I'd ask.

Other important question, where do you buy these lines?

I had mine made at big truck shop. Hose was rated for more temp/pressure than OEM and was a better quality. I walked the hoses in to them and said I need this and out come copies in a little bit of time.
before you install new ones, put some shielding on the hoses, and yes they do brake. twice for me and last week the equalizer line between the heads broke out in the middle of know where thankfully i had a pair of plugs in the glove box lost 2 gallon of oil before i seen it the engine was still running so was not on the end of the hook
