bucket seat failure

ok guys, ive given up on my endless search for some factory bucket seats with the center fold down- but i did get a lead on a set of 2001 bucket seats also with the center fold down, now what i want to know is what actually goes into installing these, i assume there isnt a direct bolt in, but mayby someone has a decent write up with hopefully a few pictures. this old bench seat is definitely taking a tole on my back. and my brain.

thinking the later seats wont be a direct bolt in--the older ones would tho--go to www.car-part.com , and see if a yard not tooooo far away has what you are looking for---

its really isnt that bad i think the hardest thing i had to do was cut out and bend a flange on the bracket, then re weld.... probably the hardest part but still pretty easy..... then just line them up drill new holes and your done...

If your interior is ruby, I've got the 40/20/40 seat I'd trade, I hate it.

now some of the things ive searched on hear arent very clear to me for an answer, if i were to find a set of obs 40/20/40 seats they would bolt right in with no drilling required? ive heard that and people say that the 40/20/40's have three seat track, while others say one?.

OK, having done this the hard way once or twice here is what I know about the OBS 40/20/40 seats.

I bought a really nice one for a 95 I have in the fleet from a wrecking yard. Then I learned the following.

On regular cab and crew cab trucks, the 3 seats are mounted on a big bracket that fits the same 4 bolts that a bench seat will fit. After you remove the 3 seats from the base it looks like the bottom of a bench seat. In fact I have OBS 40/20/40 seats in my 86 regular cab, bolted straight in.

On super cab trucks, the 3 seats are mounted seperate to 8 holes. The mounting base is different and will not fit a regular or crew cab. This has to do with the seat tipping up and sliding forward at the same time to get in the back seat. Also the SC floor pan is shaped different. I had to find a junk regular cab seat mounting base (mentioned above) to make my project work out.

Also on super cabs the base to the center seat is different than the other 2. The back and the foam/upholstery are the same, and you could modify the base by cutting and welding if you had to, but the SC center seat base won't bolt to the RC /CC base.

The two bucket seats are the same for all 3 cabs, but not the seat adjusting tracks. Also the bottom foam is the same L or R so you can swap them and put the little used R foam on the L. Yo can actually swap the complete buckets side to side, puts the back tilt handle on the wrong side, but you can use 2 R buckets that way.

Pretty much everything is fixable, with 3 sets of seats (one had been out in the rain for a couple of winters) I was able to put the nice low mile junkyard ones in the 95 project truck, then use the 4 left to make a decent set for the 86, with all pumps and lumbars working, frame cracks welded, plastic cardboard under the bottom foam etc.

well i got seats out of a 94' extended cab.... took the bench out, and mocked the seats up, not 1 of the 4 bolt wholes matched up, so i positioned them, drilled new wholes, had to use 1 inch puck spacers to level them out (due to the differnt floor pans) and bolted them in, they sit great, look great, guees its one of those jobs you have to do and ask questions later. i dont think two people have had the same opinion on seats for these trucks, but all in all with some enthusiasm you can make anything work.
