Cargo AirBags

Im Plannig to add Cargo Airbaigs on my Truck.
I Know that Firestone sales a kit that include 2airbags, a compressor, hoses and the hardware to mount all of this.

Do a Firestone kit for 500$ is a good Plan ? or there is a cheaper/better way to make my truck level with his cargo ?

You are paying a lot to have the compressor and control from the dash. I haven't found the whiz bang feature a necessity. I air my bags for the expected load and go for it. I rarely have a need to tweek the pressure. If it does need adjustment a simple cigarette lighter compressor will do it. You will save close to $300. I have used Air Lift and Firestone bags. Can't really distinguish any difference. I have had good experience with Air Lift customer support. Best price I've found on Firestone bags is JC Whitney even though I'm not a Whitney fan.

I use Airlift bags and I had them on my old '86. I didn't have the on board air compressor on the last truck. I do have it this time and I can tell you I LOVE IT!!!! It's nice to be able to air the bags up with the trailer hitched up and fill to a level ride and then when I get to the campsite, set the trailer and empty the bags to get a decent ride back in case I run out of bubbly or cat food. convience- yeah but well worth it IMHO..

Hey chuckster57, I see you have a 97 with airbags... I put firestone air bags on my '88 F250 and I want to put them on my '97 also but I have a popup gooseneck hitch on already and am not sure if the sideplates for the hitch would interfere with the bags mounting or not as the '88 did not have a frame hitch. So more or less I was wondering if you had any problems with the two coexisting? Or does your fifth wheel setup not have sideplates outside the frame? just curious, any info is appreciated. TIA

I had Firestone bags on my '86 F-350, '87 E-350 motor home, '94 GMC diesel, all with separate air fittings (mounted through holes to retain license plate), Colman portable air compressor w/cig. plug.
This worked like a charm.
Now on my '03 F-250 I have the compressor mounted in the frame rail, switch and gauge low on dash..........I prefer this convenience.
If you pay attention to the gauge, you can tell what the weight of your payload is........at 60 psi, add 1,000 lbs pay load and the guage may read 70 psi or so. Big rigs have been doing this for legal axel weight estimations for years.

Sorry for any confusion....TRUCK is a '94....TRAILER is a'97

I had to do a minor mod (bend) on the top mounting plate tabs to fit the frame contour and clear the rail mount, but it was no biggie..

Thanks for the info chuckster57, I will try to remember to take pics when I do the install...(always hard because I usually just want to get the truck back together again) although it might be a couple months before I get to buying em' as money is a little tight right now.

I went with the Kelderman air ride setup.
It makes a great deal of difference.
