Chip causing no start?

Yesterday I left work heading for lunch and I noticed the check engine light coming on intermittenly and the more I paid attention the more I noticed that the truck was hesitating some. I left it running at the house over lunch and on the way back to the shop I saw no problem. I just went out at lunch and tried to go home for lunch again and now it wont start. I noticed when I first turned the key on that the wait to start light came on for a very brief period and then it would spin but no start. Now I dont get a wait to start light at all. I swapped a known good cps into it and still spin no start. My question is could my problem be my chip or the PCM? I am going back out when I get done posting to remove the chip and see if that makes a difference! Sorry so long fellas, any help is appreciated as always!!!!!

Clean the pcm contacts and make sure the chip is taped in securely, and don't wiggle or mess with the chip at all while the key is in the ignition.

Re: Chip causing no start?

Thanks Wild. The chip has been in this thing for a couple of years so I didnt think that could be the issue. I didnt get to pull it out at lunch but I am looking at it now so I am going to try that.

Re: Chip causing no start?

I Just pulled the chip and still no start. So I am going to plug it back in and try something else.

I Found fuse #22 to be blown. I replaced it and the glow plug light came on but then the fuse blew again. I think I have heard something about the fuel heater shorting? Where is the plug and what colors is it?

Re: Chip causing no start?

Its the fuel heater. Funny looking plug on the driver's side of the fuel bowl about halfway down. Red wire with a light green trace. You can also remove the fuel filter and disconnect the little spade connector in there (that's how I do it). Cheers!

Re: Chip causing no start?

You can unplug it inside the fuel bowl and see if that fixes it. The standpipe is left hand thread.

Re: Chip causing no start?

Yes, unplug the fuel heater.

The plug is located on the drivers side of the fuel bowl. There are two connectors, it should be the top one.

Re: Chip causing no start?

I got it. Thanks fellas. Luckily I slowed down and did a search last night after getting frustrated with it and found a post describing this repair. I just cut the wire and heat shrinked the harness end of it. After I repaired it the truck still wouldnt start and I got pretty ill about it. Then I realized that I hadnt put the new CPS in it. You can fix alot more when you slow down and think about what you have done. Thanks again for everyones help. TDS members save the day again.
