Dirt in intake

I got back the results from my first Blackstone. I'm quite impressed with their speed and detail.
Now to my problem:
From Blackston comments section; [ QUOTE ]
We found a higher than average amount of iron and lead (bearings) in this sample. Silicon
at 20 ppm is either from the recent use of a silicone lube on a gasket or its excess dirt that got past the
air filter and possibly contributed to the extra wear. We're guessing it's dirt, so we suggest checking
the air filter. Universal averages show typical wear for the 7.3L PSD after 5200 miles on the oil. We
suggest using a shorter interval for the next sample. Try a 4K mile oil change and check back to see
the results. Hopefully, engine wear will improve.

Last week I pulled the my DIY Tymar at the exh. pipe to stock rubber joint. Look what I found:

This has me worried to say the least.
What the heck is going on here?
My driving conditions aren't bad, at least I don't think so. All paved roads, 10 miles country, 20 miles of interstate & 10 miles of city (Indianapolis) 5 days per week. 20-50 miles varied conditions but all paved on weekends. The farm driveway (usually there on weekends) is dirt, but very short.
I remember a post last year about so many people who had never had dust in their intake after doing Tymar (DIY or otherwise), that I decided to do it.
Was I lied to? Or did I get the wrong filter?

Daniel

Re: Dirt in intake

well the report is bad and there is definately dirt getting in some where. I have used the tymar intake for over 40,ooo miles with no issues and your filter looks to be sealed good. I dont't know what to tell you. Maybe pull the filter off the pipe and shine a flashlight in to make sure there are no holes in the filter. Next step is to check your turbo impeller. if it looks ok then I would buy a new 6637 verfiy seal and reinstall then check weekly after that until your next oil report.

Re: Dirt in intake

ya, you may have just gotten a faulty air filter or maybe one of your clamps wasn't seated just right and left a tiny hole for unfiltered air to suck in. I have a tymar from Dale and it is perfectly clean every time I take it off

Re: Dirt in intake

Any chance that you had a bad battery that was the type that is wet on the top and ate some small holes in the old filter? I think there was one report of that a ways back.
