DIY rear disks

I've swapped to rear disks on a Dana 60 using Chevy front backing plates and calipers w/ Ford rotors. Almost a direct bolt on other then spacing the holes on the backing plate out a little. Even being single piston they work great, way better then the drums, didn't need a proportioning valve either.

Question is: Has anyone done this on the Sterling axle? I've not torn it down far enough to measure. Looks like it about the same as the Dana 60 outers but... If no one has then I'll let you know when my drums wear out..

Re: DIY rear disks

SlopeTruck -- There are several ways of going about installing rear disc brakes on the Sterling (Ford) 10.25 rear axle. TSM out of Colorado sells a kit including just everything you would need for the conversion.

If you are looking for a do-it-yourself approach, check out the following threads from the archives:

Re: DIY rear disks

Thanks for the links. Have looked at the TSM site. To me it looks like the chevy backing plate will work when compared to the picture of their backing plate (has the correct amount of off-set.) I hate paying $400-500 for anything I can scrounge that works just as well. I will definatly go with Eldorado calipers since it is a pain on my other truck not having an e brake at times.
The backing plate off-set is my real question, the rotor bolt right up once the drum is removed, the single caliper works very well and doesn't require a proportioning valve and the parts are fairly cheap/accessible.
