DIY Stage 1= 160cc good for towing? Better options???

I have a totally stock 96 PS out of a E-Van so i think i have the smaller turbo, Also E4OD. My only plans are IC, Intake, and free flowing exhaust without cat. I tow a 10k pound 5th and would like a little more torque but dont want to worry about EGTs. Would i just be better off with a chip? If i install the injectors would i still need a chip to help with EGTs? Money for mods is tight and this truck is only used in the summer for towing.

if you go with bigger injectors, you'll also need some sort of intercooler on there for towing.

Re: DIY Stage 1= 160cc good for towing? Better options???

well teh IC is goign to cost you as much as teh cheapest injectors so thats your choice. Your best bet would be Beans tranny savers teh 130cc ones, very small increae but worth every cent, you will need a chip to help with it, Tony W can set you up with some tow programs that would really help, with thsi setup you could get away without teh IC and save that money, add a good flowing exhaust and a Tyamr intake adn your set.

Injectors won't do you much good without a chip. And where is it written in the Powerstroke laws that you have to have an intercooler to tow with one. CraigPSD has 175/190s and tows an '05 Mustang without going over 1100* in the hottest program that he has.

Re: DIY Stage 1= 160cc good for towing? Better options???

Well for the price of the IC i think its a worth while investment. I have fabricated many ICs for turbo/supercharged cars and have alot of alluminum 3'' pipe around. Totall cost would be around $150.00 for me to build the IC, piping and spider. Anyone have a address for BEAN? The trans is a fresh rebuild and will be getting a transco tugger shift kit and im trying to learn about the many different TCs out there.

Does your motor have a fuel damper behind the fuel pump?
Could be AB code.

Sure. On level ground, ok.
Go hit some hills, and .. oops, there goes the EGT's north of 1200. Gee, wonder why that happened.

It is not written in law you need an IC, but arguably most everyone will agree that it is highly recomended.

Re: DIY Stage 1= 160cc good for towing? Better options???

1, if you can make an IC then hell yes do it, that is worth the money.
2. then do the DIY injectors, you can make then smaller if you want like 130-150cc, very easy.
3. a good chip, call T Wildman is worth every singel penny you spend on it.
open teh exhaust and use a Tymar intake

A PI Stallion is a great TC, really great, but do not install teh tugger kit before you get it, teh plate can not be drilled very must before it is too harsh.
