Trying to help a buddy out. '97 F350 7.3 CC/LB 4x4, manual tranny. We are looking to do a complete turbo back exhaust on his truck. Where can I get an exhaust for this truck, and what is the biggest downpipe without major modification.
Ive heard of some guys putting in 4 inchers with some work on the firewall, for me squeezing in a 3in was enough cursing and tool throwing . I got a nice exhaust from gofastengineering.com or checkout gtsmotorsports, beansdieselperformance, or ebay

It also depends on how your cab is mounted. BigDan97 says he had trouble getting his 3" in place but my 3" dropped in perfectly with no modifications to the firewall at all and I have a small amount of clearance still to boot!

my guess is that you have an auto and bigdan97 has a stick. ive heard it sucks to put a downpipe on a stick, but its not as bad on an auto because you have a little more room.

I shouldnt really claim it was that bad, I was trying to bend in the actual firewall instead of just the pinchweld , but it still sucked, Ive done one more automatic since then and it still wasnt that fun but I have an auto so ill butt out of this one i didnt know its different.

I just did a full turbo back and intake in my 97 F250. I did it by my self in 4 hours in the parking lot my my apartment in a greasy parking spot. If you call dale at Tymar (you can find his website on the interent) he will hook you up with what you want.
I would recomend a gutted EBPV, do a search in the archives for that its a 1 hour job. Behind I would recomend a 3x4 inch downpipe, because it expands sufficently but only requires bending of the spot weld seam in the firewall. Behind that I would recomend a 4 inch out the back, delete the cat. Your EGTs will be lower and you will have more power(a somewhat useless term) and torque throughout the power band. If you go to NAPA and get one 3 inch easy seal clamp and five 4 inch easy seal clamps you will have pretty good luck getting done what you need. A sawsallwith some 8 inch rescue blades and a 4 ton porta power from habor freight will be a good investment in your time. You can use it to cut off the cobra head from your stock DP and cutt the ends off the stock hangers (leave the rubber parts) to drop your old exhaust.
Call Dale. you wont be dissapointed.
with 2 people it wont take much time at all.

Take a look at the MBRP systems, they are available in aluminized and stainless. The down pipe is 3 inches and then at 22 inches from the turbo it changes to 4.0 inches. This is the fastest transition I know of to get to 4.0 inches as fast as possible. Otherwise you'll have to really really modify the firewall. Call us if you have any questions etc.
