DPTuner, what am I doing wrong

Installed the tuner bout 3 weeks ago. Works awsome. I am now trying to install the DPTuner device utility v 1.0.0 on my lap top. Unknown USB device message comes up when I plug in the USB cable. Also the hardware is detected but then says there is a prob w/it. The Utility screen also says there is no hardware.

Anyone think they know what I am not doing correctly ? Any help will be great.

Thanks Kent

Is your OS XP or Vista? If it's the latter, it may be a complete incompatibility issue with the hardware. If it's the former, it sounds like it may only be a driver issue.

Plug the device in and look under My Computer (right click it and select properties). In the dialogue box that opens, select the "Hardware" tab. Under this, click on device manager. Once that opens, look for the device. If it's there, select it and right click again and select properties. See what the device status is. If it too says there is a problem, select the driver tab and then click on "update driver". The driver "should" be on the install CD.

I have tried it on two different lap tops. One w/XP and the other Vista. I also tried all that you suggested many times. I'm sure there is one little item that I am missing. Also I dont have a CD , did not know I was supposed to have one. Maybe this is my prob ?

Thanks Kent

OK, not sure what else to suggest then...

Kent, it may or may not suppose to have a CD with it. I was just taking a stab in the dark thinking it was purely a computer issue. I don't have a DPTuner, so I can't say if you should have a CD. NORMALLY, with any hardware that hooks up to a computer (regardless of the method it connects with), there is an installation/driver CD.

Do you have a part number or model number of the device you're trying to connect to your laptop? I did a quick Google on "DP Tuner device utility v 1.0.0" but don't see anything relating.

Ok, I found it on DP's site. It's a download only item apparently. In the files you downloaded, can you find anything named "driver" or something relating to that?

Eh, scratch the above comment! Did you also download the " USB Device Driver" that is right above the "Device Utility"? On this page?

Thanks for the help and effort. Yes I did download all the programs from DP. I might go back out to the truck and try some more.

Thanks

Yep I have it working now. I removed the computer and chip. Not to fun on the OBS trucks. Cleaned all the connections w/some 600 paper and electromotive cleaner.

Reinstalled the computer and chip. Plugged in the USB cable and the utility screen works perfect. Shows the tunes I have and also the two revised tunes.

When I first installed the tunes the 2-3 shift was at about 2900-3000 rpm WFO. I had asked Jody to up this to 3500 rpm. This revision was sent to me in an e-mail,how cool. Installed this in the device utility in the correct colume.

I've been out wasting fuel ever since.

Kent

I had the same thing, couldn't figure out why it wouldn't work. Jody set me straight and I did some tune swapping on mine. Nice setup for sure.
