Re: Dropping tranny?

Just did this, youll want a tranny jack, much safer, youll need at least one helper if youre gonna keep your tcase on. You undo driveline, take off the crossmember, undo bellhousing bolts, TC to flywheel bolts and slide her out. flywheel wrench would be handy. It looks like you have to undo the starter but you dont, also the tranny dipstick just popped right off if I remember right. youll want some long extensions, its not too bad, might be good to have a chiltons or a right up off here to go in the right steps.

Re: Dropping tranny?

You can drop it with a helper in about 30 minutes. You need about three feet of a 1/2" drive extensions and a universal to make it easier to get the top bell housing bolts out. The hardest bolt to remove was the dip stick tube bolt on the back of the head. A trans jack is well worth the money!

The 2 on the top can be gotten from the top. It hurts and is rather difficult, but it can be done.

Re: Dropping tranny?

You don't need 3 feet a swivel is a must if you don't. You can also use a regular jack with some modification. You can also lower the tail housing to gain better access to the top bolts. You can leave the bolt on the block for the dipstick. Just as you start to lower the trans make sure you pull the slip joint apart. Also up-pipe donuts can be very easily replaced when its out.
