Dumb CCV Mod Question

I was looking under the hood this afternoon and every single one of my intercooler boots is soaked in oil residue. Sooo, I figure it is time I finally do the crankcase ventilation (CCV) mode.

However, I have a dumb question before I tear into everything and mess something up. What is the best way to plug/cover/whatever the bung in the intake tube? I have the updated plastic one on my truck if that matters.

Hopefully this will keep my intercooler boots clean.

Cheers from Orlando, FL!

Re: Dumb CCV Mod Question

on my buddies we pulled the piece that sticks up into the intake out and then built a lil cover where it went out of a small elctrical box cover, rounded the one side on the bench grinder, put a lil JB weld on it, which prolly wont work for your plastic piece, and then drilled a hole in it and used the screw that held in the aformentioned piece we took out.

understand??? long and confusing but it works.

Re: Dumb CCV Mod Question

Take the hose down to your local hardware store and find a pipe plug that fits. Cut the elbow off the hose, plug what remains, reinstall on the intake tube, clamp it &amp; you are done.

Re: Dumb CCV Mod Question

getting the tapered tube out of the intake track really helps with flow. pull it out and get it welded shut or cover the hole with sheet metal and some type of good epoxy. i flow tested mine when i did the mod years ago and it was a real big improvement. i will be doing one for a friend in the near future and will take pics of the flow bench with the parts being tested, now i need to learn how to post pics on the net! then the heads will get tested!

Re: Dumb CCV Mod Question

Hey Dave!

Before I get started, let me say it is good to see you back on the forum. Glad your health is improving too!!!

You said you have the black upgrade housing. Before I replaced that with a section of 4" exhaust tubing (as pictured in this LINK ), I went to the HELP Products section at the local parts store and bought a 3/4" (I think that is the size, you should double check that size) rubber cap that is sold to cap unused heater outlet on small block Chevy water pumps. My plan was to put a hose clamp on to hold the cap in place but is was a nice snug fit all by itself.

Hope that helps!

God Bless,

TC

Re: Dumb CCV Mod Question

I got a "heater hose cutoff cover", little thing made by HELP! at the local auto parts store. 1/2" rubber cap is all it is, use a clamp on it.

Re: Dumb CCV Mod Question

I managed to make to Advance Discount Auto Parts this morning and found the parts to do the 'quick 'n' dirty' CCV mod. I thought I would post the parts here if anyone else is considering this.

Part No. 80432 | Hose Connector and Clamps for 90° Molded Coolant Hose 3/4" I.D.
02254 | Help! Bypass Caps 3/4" Qty: 2
No. 234 | Thermoid Automotive Replacement Heater Hose 3/4"x6'

And here is what showed up on the receipt:
5198518 | Brass Fitting Kit
5014190 | Heater Plugs
5190002 | Hose Heater 3/4" 6'

I still need to get the crankcase breather O-rings to seal it back up properly but that is just a matter of going by the International dealer.

Here is what I did:<ul type="square">[*]Remove intake tubing back to turbocharger[*]Remove crankcase breather assembly[*]Re-install crankcase breather assembly, rotated 180° so outlet is facing towards the rear[*]Insert brass fitting into crankcase breather 90° hose[*]Route 3/4" heater hose over brake booster and down to framerail[*]Connect heater hose and crankcase breather 90° and clamp[*]Install bypass cap onto air intake tube and clamp[*]Re-install intake tubing[*]Start truck[*]Gag at horrendous stench emanating from underneath truck
Oh, and there is no feeling quite like washing up with GoJo on a fresh sunburn. &lt;-Your friendly FAQ editor looking out for you right there.

Cheers from Orlando, FL!
