Edge Evolution

I have a question. I have a 1995 F-250 Powerstroke 7.3 and had a Superchip tuner that gave me problems. I sent it back and got an Edge Evolution. My question (keep in mind that I just got the Edge today) I don't seem to feel very much difference when using any of the three programs on take off. I haven't felt any difference with any of the programs. The Superchip tuner I did but when I would stop at a stop sign my truck would die. Sent it to Superchips and they kept it for a month and when I got it back it wouldn't accelerate. So I decided to go with Edge. Has anyone had similar problems not telling any difference using the Edge Evolution? Thanks

Re: Edge Evolution

I've got the edge evo and you should be smoking tires on a hard take off. It almost sounds like there has got to be something else wrong? I've been really happy with the evo. You can't tell much difference between tow and extreme?

Re: Edge Evolution

I would take a look at your turbo if you dont see any power increases, since thats where all the extra power comes from.I have an EVO,havent tried to other 2 settings until i get my 4" exhuast completed. It did make a BIG difference over stock with the tow setting, can almost lite the tires up

Re: Edge Evolution

Well I returned my truck to stock and now it won't start. The wait to start light won't come on. I then tried to reprogram back to the edge program and it won't even go into the programming screen. It looks like I may need a new computer or to have the computer reprogrammed from the dealer. I think I am going to send that @##@! Edge back and either get a Bully Dog Chip or after all of this say screw it! Any ideas on how much it would cost me to have the computer reprogrammed from the dealer? And also worse if I have to have a new computer how much that will be?

Re: Edge Evolution

I wouldn't give up on the edge, it does sound like your PCM is going or has gone bad. I believe Jody tipton can re-flash pcm's and can put a new program on them for added performance or economy. Not sure of the price of a new one. Hopefully others will chime in to help out as well!

Re: Edge Evolution

Well I ordered a PCM from Jody Tipton today and he is going to send me a chip programmed for my truck. 3rd time the charm (I hope). From Superchips to Edge Evolution to DP-Tuners. Something is bound to work out for me. ]

Re: Edge Evolution

When you say problem in the turbo, what do you make of closing the waste gate? My buddies (all goat fans) say this is the secret to making the Evolution scream. I installed it just yesterday, and I too was disappointed. My tires weren't even close to squalling. It runs great, with no problem It is definitely stronger---no doubt---but not what I expected 100 hp to feel like. Everyone says I need boost pressure increase (mine only showed 14.8 on the diagnostic) and tying the waste gate should do it?????? Sound reasonable? Tricks to doing it?

Re: Edge Evolution

our turbo isnt wastegated. it does have a flapper in it called an exhaust back pressure valve. Sometimes it will stick partially shut or shut all the way. many of us have removed it to prevent this and open up the flow more. if you want exteme speed you gotta upgrade injectors, our stock injectors will only get you 215-225 rwhp.

Re: Edge Evolution

That sound great. Thanks. Is there a secret to getting it to stay open, and removing that linkage without having to tear out the whole turbo housing, etc. My brother-in-law said he pryed his off with a tire tool and wired the flapper open?

Re: Edge Evolution

Very interesting. I will try that. Sounds less "barbaric" than the baling wire and tire tool solution I have been given. Those Kansas boys...my best buddy is a Kansas Dodge man. The baling wire was his idea...

Re: Edge Evolution

My 2 cents

I keep mine on extreme ALL THE TIME. I went to stock, just for the heck of it, and my truck felt like a dog. There is a huge difference between stock and extreme. Stock- no smoke, Extreme- LOTS of smoke. Stock 0-60 is around 12.6 secs, Extreme 0-60 is around 9.7 seconds. Still slowish, I know, but once I waste the tranny, I plan on a rebuild prior to sticking in babies or better. Kind of in a mod holding pattern for now. The first few times I reprogrammed, I did it in the Ford Dealership parking lot, just in case. Now I am very comfortable with programming and do it wherever. I always go back to tow mode when I tow due to the high EGTs.

Hope things work out for you.

Re: Edge Evolution

bearsr392,
I have had an edge for quite a while......now what I have notied is that I put my edge in and it worked okay but then after about 3 weeks in my truck completly changed! I blew smke like crazy and I could powerbrake no problem. So the way that i see it is that the program finally adjusted to my truck, I've heard rumors that it is a constanly adapting thing. So now with that info the way I see it is a flip chip is pointless, because if the truck has to adjust to the new variables yo wouldnt have @$$ kickin power at the flip of a switch, everyone I've talked to has sid there chip does better after time. So my two cents worth is just leave the edge in ut ut it on the 80 hp for about 3 weeks and then let us know how it's doin! Shoud be smokin!!!!

Re: Edge Evolution

Thanks for the info. Mine doesn't have the mods you have, and has 285/75 tires, so that may keep it from screaming. I went through the install of the Edge Evolution, no problem, and can easily (albeit not quickly) interchange between the Power levels. Obviously I can tell a difference with the Extreme, but it just doesn't "feel" like 100 hp ought to "feel." My buddy has a Dodge (he's confused...) with the 6 setting Edge. At 100 hp setting, you can barely keep it in the road! Completely different set-up I know. I was told I needed to tie open the waste gate (exhaust back pressure valve), but I had strange results. With the engine off, the EBP valve I assumed was in the "closed" setting. I popped off the actuator rod, as to move the valve freely. I tied it off shut (to the right) and tried it. Minimal smoke, no big difference in power. I wondered if it needed to tie off to the right (what appeared to be open) so we did that. It bellared out thick black sooty smoke for sure, but I had what felt like a 50% drop in power. In all settings, all gears (automatic tranny). Does this make any sense at all? Would this valve be open or closed with the engine off? Depending on that, which way should it be tied? Keep in mind, I'm new to this, and am not a mechanic whatsoever. I repair people for a living. But if it makes sense, I can git-R-dun somehow. Thanks in advance for the help!!!

Re: Edge Evolution

7point3ontheD13,
Hey I usually run mine in the 80hp. I actually get more power and better 0-60 times and 1/4 times out of the 80hp. For now even with my mods It's to much for my truck. I really need to get an open intake! But try runnin the 80hp for a while. Oh I still need to gut my EBPV
