I bought and replaced the dash lights. It came with a potentiometer (rotary) I don't even use it. I had a dash light problem earlier (fixed now) but in the process saw the potentiometer to be smoking and caught fire [img]/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif[/img]. So I put it out, no damage. Now im just wondering how do i delete it. I have 1 hot wire and 1 ground wire going to it. Should I just replace the potentiometer? Thanks Karl

When you say replaced the dash lights,

was it with one of those "street glow" types? Those are the only ones I have seen that include their own potentiometer.

If it is just a two wire pot, then is should not be 1 hot and 1 ground wire, it should be just interrupting one of the lights wires, either pos. or neg. If that is the case you could just connect the two wires together, the dash lights should be full intensity and you would just not be able to dim them.

If your pot has 3 wires, then it should be interrupting one wire, the pos, and have a ground to keep the voltage constant and alt the amps.

I have the dash gauge overlays. It has spots for three wires. 1 for a pos. 1 for a neg. Depending on which side you put the pos on determines which way the light increases in intensity.
