first diesel truck

I have a few questions about my truck. I have a 97 F 250 with a edge evolution programmer, a MBRP 4 inch turboback exhaust, a S&B cold air intake, and a set of isspro gauges. Now here are my questions. What should my EGTs be at for normal and max? What should my boost pressure be at? and what setting should I run my programmer on? Any help would be nice. Like I said my first diesel.

Hello Chris and welcome
those are very open ended questions.
As far as egts it depends if its in your manifold (preturbo) or in your downpipe (post turbo), the prefered place is the manifold. 1250 is about as hot as you want to get sustained, ive hit up 14-1500* racing but thats just a quick hit, thats going off my preturbo pyro (I run pre and post turbo pyros). if your pyro is post turbo there is no safe number to go by, IE people usually say oh just subtract 200* from your post pyro number and your fine WRONG! Ive seen up to 4-500* differences in pre/post turbo pyros.
Now as far as the edge programmer goes, id put it up for sale and buy a Tony Wildman chip from the man http://www.totaldieselperformance.co...ctCode=TDP%5F6 custom tuned chip, and its shift on the fly.
but if you want to use the evo Id go on the second level if you dont tow much, i remember when I had an evo and i think thats what Id do.
Good Luck
Dan

Thanks for the info. I forgot to post were my EGT sensor was located. I put it in the down pipe after the turbo, sounds like that was the wrong place maybe I will relocate. I do use the truck for towing but normally only about 8000 to 9000 pounds.

Like Dan said the after turbo isn't as accurate. No need for me to go thru that again because Dan sounds more knowledgeable anyhow. I will tell you that Banks gave me the "about 1050 is the max sustained temp" but they also said it wasn't an accurate way to measure.
The response time of the temps is what I noticed most when I switched mine to the manifold. In the maniold the temps will vary all the time depending on the load on the engine at the time. Anywhere from 400 to 1250 and it moves quickly.
My uncle still has his after the turbo in his stock programmed truck. If you still want some typical #'s let me know and I can ask him.
The boost should be at 0 if you want to get some decent mileage! At 75 mph mine will read about 3psi. Under load it will quickly shoot up to around 15 and gradually grow from there up to about 21 max. These are just my numbers to give you an idea. I have a 40hp banks and 3" DP.
Good luck with your truck and have fun! Jason
