Finally got some time @ home to start my ic install. I did a fit-up of the pipes first since I have polished them up and if I needed to redo them i want to get that out of the way first...... mock-up ic pipes.......
Jim, that picture #009 is great , man where did you get that super custom right side intercooler pipe .
I have a survey question: ThreeStarJR drops his sandwich on his engine while working on his truck. Does he....
A) Throw away the sandwich because it is dirty.
B) Pick it up and finish eating it.
C) Get mad at himself for contaminating the spotless sanitary environment under his hood.
Guess you will be needing when you open the hood from now on, that is one awesome job on those i/c parts!!
Cary, I got a few hours in these pipes..... more than I want to think about......

Got a question about the variations of aluminum intakes, Look here..... I bought a couple of used alum. intakes to polish up and resale, I was told that the ones I got were off of a "97, but the bracket bolt bosses are on the oppisite side from my '96 (not that it matters, I've removed the bosses anyway), and there is a deffinate "crook" as it reduces down to fit the turbo boot. These wouldn't be from an early "99 would they?
OMG, you spent a lot of time!!!! I hope you know that orange intake boot (to the turbo) is a POS and known for leaking.
You are now an official member of the Colorado bling-bling club.

I believe one of them is for a van and the other is for the trucks. The replacement black ones have brackets on both sides if I remember right.

Yea Ben, the original orange boot has a tendency to crack near the turbo due to being too thin, mine is still in good shape but I do check it periodically....don't know if all this polishing rates for that club, we're talken major bling on some of them trucks........
Never thought about the van inlet, betcha that's what I got...good catch!!
man that looks great! makes me want to get mine in now...if only i had some extra time!...and some welding skills...

Thanks Craig, I certainly appreciate the compleiment. My Coon-ass buddy, Patrick (sniper-on High) deserves all the credit for the factory looking passengers side pipe. He took the stock 7.3 pipe and some bends and radiuses out of a stock 6.0 pipe and made it work beautifully...got a question for ya, since the early 99 y-pipe is so close to the filter housing (and that side of the y is where I removed a sensor, and two small ports, where do you think it would be best to tap in the map sensor line and still keep a good clean look?
I left the map sensor in teh pass side manifold and welded a bung for the boost gauge in teh back side of teh Y pipe so I had hot side boost, I am thinking I would rather know the boost the turbo is seeing that the motor, careful though Bigbopper melted his plastic line cause it was mounted a bit too close to teh turbo.
Damn learnign curve!

Boy Craig! you got that right! The reason I asked about the map sensor line is I'm gonna put the 3" SD intakes on that i lucked into for a good price. Think I'l just plug the y @ the sensor location this go-round and Think about the bigger intakes and a fuel system down the road.....Then rig up a fitting at that location, the Cobalt boost gauges has it's own mapsensor that the guage line plugs into so I don't have to relocate it....
Jeff, not to long ago someone posted about picking up a couple of "J" bends and possibly a 45° to fab the pipes out of. Is that the 180° you are thinking of? Can't see how that wouldn't work, that gives you a minimum of four 90°'s, some straight and a 45° to work with.
Brian, I just didn't give much consideration to chrome. Prepping for the chrome would be the exact same procedure as I did to get to the buffing. Once you get the welds ground down, get the god awful jaw marks from the mandrel bender on the stock pipe out, and then sand everything down slick, the polishing part is easy. And I'm not so sure the chrome wouldn't tarnish close to the turbo outlet side due to some pretty high temps on a stock turbo when it gets above it's map range @ wot with inj. and a hot program. My second choice would be to power coat. I love the look that Bob Riley has on his Super Duty Bob's Bling-Bling Pic is @ the bottom of the page.
