Fix for boost gauge flutter

I read a post on here some time ago about introducing restriction into the line to stop the boost gauge flutter, does anyone have a link to the thread or just the info on how to and what to use?
With the stage 2's and reprogrammed chip it's really boincin' now

Re: Fix for boost gauge flutter

I use a regular $2 automotive fuel filter (the plastic kind with the paper element inside) on both our vehicles...solved the flutter on both as well.

Re: Fix for boost gauge flutter

I was dreaming about this the other day also, and was thinking that maybe it is because the map line is so close to the intake valves, that maybe if it was moved to the Y pipe right after the turbo, maybe it would calm it down.

anyone have there's in the Y-pipe, does it still flutter.

Re: Fix for boost gauge flutter

That sounds more simple than the original post I read here some time ago I'll have to try it. I'm assuming that it will still allow enough flow to get an accurate reading.
Looks like I might need to get a 60psi gauge now it seems to be spiking the 35psi gauge, and probably a new turbo and or an intercooler in the near future.

Re: Fix for boost gauge flutter

yeah gettin it around 35 psi or more you will need a new turbo, mine is hurting. mine flutters too, but i thought it was the gauge, maybe not. ill try some type of restriction.

Re: Fix for boost gauge flutter

There is an orifice you can stick on the line that should fix it. You can get them here, looks like you need the 0.025" orifice as per Elkoholic's post here.

Would it hurt to put it before the map. I was thinking about right before the T?

Re: Fix for boost gauge flutter

I had a '96 with an Auto Meter z-series 60# boost gauge that didn't flutter at all. But my '95 has an Auto Meter Sport Comp 35# gauge that flutters above 10# of boost. The '96 was in the Intake Y and the '95 is in the MAP line I still have the 60# gauge and been meanin to try it and see the difference on the truck, but I haven't gotten around to it yet
I noticed that it says operating temps are 40* to 120*, how will that affect it when it is winter?

Re: Fix for boost gauge flutter

You can put the fuel filter somewhere (I don't think it matters exactly where) in-line of the gauge. On both our turbo'd vehicles, I put it under the hood just before the pressure line goes into the firewall.

Both vehicles had flutter, now the both do not - total cost $4+tax.

Try it and I bet it will work!

Re: Fix for boost gauge flutter

My 0-35PSI guage would flutter pretty badly near the top end of the guage, now my 0-60PSI guage doesn't flutter, but I shortened up my map line because I re-did my boost and MAP lines for the new guage. BTW I have Ultra-Lite Auto-meter's if that makes a difference for ya.
