Re: Fluidampr

chainfeed, I'm glad you brought this up. I posted in the 94-97 General forums about a vibration that my engine has and have yet to find a definate answer to the problem. My harmonic balancer has the rubber protruding out and it does wobble some so I bit the bullet and ordered a Fluidampr yesterday. My engine did not used to have this buzzing type vibration but it seemed to start kind of all of the sudden. I am hoping this fixes my problem and I will post on the rusults when I get it installed in 5 or 6 days.

P.S. I wish I had access to a vibration anylizer so I could better diagnose my problem. There are 4 combustions per revolution x 650 rps at idle = 2600/min. / 60seconds = 43.3/second or 43.3hz. this is close to 60hz a/c house current which drives a hair clipper for example and my vibration frequency seems simular to a hair clipper. Not to mention that a harmonic of 43.3hz would be some even multiple of 43.3hz, i.e. 173.2hz. A simple rotational mass out of balance would be equal to the rpm/60 or 10.8hz at idle, and would be noticably slower in frequency. If my problem is torsional vibration and my calculation are close then maybee my HB is to blame. I could be wrong about all of this so if someone has a strong physics background feel free to correct any of my mistakes.

So anyway Chainfeed, I can answer your question first hand in about a week.

Re: Fluidampr

Cool, I'll hold off on ordering one untill then. My vibration is really annoying, mostly felt in my feet coming up thru the floor. I'm gonna check my stock one later on today to see if the rubber is coming out like you said yours is. Thanks

Re: Fluidampr

chainfeed,

Actually we sell more of the Fluidampr's to OBS 7.3's than newer ones as they generally have more miles and the factory damper is failing. If the rubber is squeezing out more than say 1/8th to 3/16th of an inch be cautious as the outer ring might come off and cause all sorts of issues.

If you need a Fluiddampr call us!

I have one,but have yet to install it.I run them on my race cars and they do wonders for them on idling smoothly and better throttle response.

Re: Fluidampr

I heard there isn't enough clearance between the fan and the damper? No one hear said they are using one.

Hmmmmmmmm, I'll have to check that out. I might be ok though, the 97 has a Cyclone. I'll check both tomorrow if I have time.

If thats true you could just leave the fan off for the winter then put on an electric set up in the spring.

Re: Fluidampr

It is true that in some cases our Fluidampr p/n 720211 for the 94-97 7.3L engines does interfere with the fan by about 1/4". In order to correct this issue we have built a threaded spacer to space the fan out about a 1/2". It simply threades on to the end of the water pump shaft and then you thread the fan/clutch assembly onto the spacer.

If anyone has already purchased a Fluidampr and needs the spacer please let me know and I will be happy to send you one. For those of you who have not purchased a Fluidampr for their engine and are waiting for Santa, make sure you order p/n 720221. This part number will include the spacer with the Fluidampr. If anyone can tell me how to attach a picture to my post I could show a picture of the spacer.

If anyone has any questions please let me know
Thanks,
Dan

Re: Fluidampr

I just measured my 95 and there is 7/8" clearence between fan and the stock dampner and it won't clear. My 97 has a cyclone fan, it will clear. Looks like the fluid damptner is 1 1/4" taller then the stocker.

There maybe a way out though for the OBS guys. If we get rid of our fan/clutch assembly and replace it with the more advanced SD assembly, this could solve the clearence issue.

Why not try the spacer that Dan(Fluidamper) says is available in his post?

I had electric fans and they didn't work worth a crap when towing.
