This is the 3rd Ford AIC I have tryed, all 3 have done the same thing. They power on when i turn the key on, and the motor will rev up to the 4 presets.
What it WONT do:
1) Let me manually adjust the motor RPM. I set it to a preset then hold the UP arrow, the motor revs up, but as soon as i let go of the button it falls back down to the preset.
2) It will not display my engine RPM. For instance, if I am drving down the highway (FORD AIC turned ON) and my tach reads 2300 rpm, The AIC Display reads "0."
I do not have a chip on my truck....any ideas? I dont know what to think. This 3rd one i tried this morning came off of a 1997 F-250 PSD...so i figured this one should work???
Sounds like it is not getting the reading from the tach, check all the wires and connections on the truck side, make sure not grounded, or bare anywhere, and that all the wires are actually into the connector.

Do you have an installation and operations manual for the AIC? If not, HERE is one. Im not sure if it has the info you need. But hey, at least I tried.
thanks for the link, i was looking for that....unfortunately didnt solve my problem. Let me restate again maybe a little more clearly if it wasnt before. The only time the display reads ANYTHING other than zero is when i hit a preset button and it displays the preset engine speed. As soon as i hit the ford oval (activate) the engine speeds up to the preset speed and the display reads zero.
That sounds exactly like mine but I have a 3 position chip. If I turn my chip off then I can preset RPM's and it shows RPM's while running. Have you had the truck all the time or did the person before you put a chip in? Othe than that I don't know what could be causing you problem - sorry

I had simular problems with my AIC, it turned out to be a bad PCM. Have you tried hooking up a scan tool to the truck? If you can read the tach on the scan tool then you have a wiring prob or a bad plug on your AIC. I have an AIC cable if you want to see if that's your problem.
Later,
AlanB

i looked at the pcm behind the ebrake and there was no chip. The scan tool is a good idea, just dont know where to go for it...dont really have the money the get one myself right now, and cant think of anyone with one that will work for my truck....thanks for the ideas guys
Some of the 97 PCM codes don't provide a signal for the AIC tach. Installing a chip will provide the necassary link to the AIC and your tach will work, just check with the chip supplier to ensure their's is compatible.

Really. It's not a "problem" with the PCM, just the way it was programmed from the factory. I have seen it a number of times, and it's always with the 97 model year. Good news is that installing a chip will fix it, along with a few other benefits....

ALANB....are you willing to part with your AIC harness, if you have an extra....I need one of the older ones for my AIC and Ford cannot seem to locate me one because they're discontinued.
My AIC has a 6 pin plug receptacle on it
