Front Speakers

While I'm doing the obligatory search for the subject, can anybody tell me a decent brand and size of speakers to replace the POS's in the front doors of our trucks? After ten years, I finally got one of those newfangled stereos that plays those compact disk thangs and promptly blew the front right speaker out. If I'm going to be a bada** bumping my Chris Ledoux ( may he rest in peace) down the road, I've got to have the goods.

Re: Front Speakers

I put 6.5" Bazooka 2-way speakers in my doors. I had to trim out the speaker hole about 1/8" all the way around with tinsnips as they were a little bigger than the stockers I pulled out.

Re: Front Speakers

go onto crutchfield.com and order a set of 6.5" speakers. i order all my audio stuff from there because they have the best customer service and supply all the necessary installation accessories for free. they also have a huge selection with various price ranges.

Another Ledoux fan? Wow I am impressed. I even called my local station and complained that they did not say or do anything about it.

Anyhow if you get 6.5" 3 ways it will be a vast improvement in sound, but you will have to trim the existing ring in about 4 places and bend the tabs in to get them to fit. if you unwilling to do that all you can get is crapy factory sound.

Re: Front Speakers

not all 6.5" speakers need trimming. just enter your vehicle type in on crutchfield.com and it will tell you which speakers will fit without modifications. i have kenwood's currently, but used to have sony x-plods, both of which did not require modification.

Re: Front Speakers

I have the speaker numbers in my sig. they are Pioneer TS-A1671R 6 1/2" 3 way that have the poly cones with rubber surround and handle 220 watts and did not have to be cut to fit. I love the sound from them over the stock speakers. I got these at BestBuy but I think Walmart sells them too for less.

Re: Front Speakers

Get some boston acoustic speakers all the way around. The mid range and highs are awsome. Put in an amp and a sub to bring up the lows. This combo sounds really good with LeDuex.

Re: Front Speakers

Thanks for all the info guys, I got my stereo from Crutchfield but wanted to make sure their dimensions were right. The problem I was seeing is that they say that everything from a 5 and a quarter to a 6.5 will fit and I figured that either one was going to be too small or the other was going to require some door panel modification.

As far as Ledoux,
Ekberg, don't feel bad, most of the stations down here won't even play him and if you actually call up and request a song you've got a better chance of getting them to play Kid Rock than Ledoux.....

He was a good guy and it sucks that he's gone but he dang sure still fills the air around me with good music on a regular basis.

Re: Front Speakers

In addition to the Kenwoods, Cerwin-Vega and Infinitys fit without trimming, just need to drill different mounting holes. Got all of them from Crutchfields.

Re: Front Speakers

I also got mine from crutchfield.com I don't even recall what kind they are but they have held up much better than the stockers. Right after I upgraded my stock unit to a high power unit the stock speakers blew. Be sure to also get the wiring harness adapters when you order the speakers so you don't have to hack up the stock wiring.

Off topic: what happened to Chris Ledoux? I must live in a cave..

Re: Front Speakers

Thanks for the info on the harnesses Crumm. I know you're probably a little behind the times up there so FYI, he died March 9 of a form of cancer of the bile duct. Sucks but he done did good in his life so we should all celebrate it.

By the way, as per the Governor of Wyoming, 30July05 has been officially declared to be Chris Ledoux Day in Wyoming. It happens to concide with the last Saturday of Frontier Days so I'll see ya'll up there.

By the way, we've got a new president as well, it's a dude from Connetticutt ( or however you spell that friggin word) named George Bush. I'll stop there so the post doesn't get yanked but thought I'd let you know so you can spread the word.....
