Fuel Pressure Gauge

I have doing some research and was wondering what exactly i need to put a fuel pressure gauge on my truck. If anybody has done this and knows how to, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

Re: Fuel Pressure Gauge

On the side of the filter housing there is a schrader valve. Remove the valve, insert whatever you need for a hose attetchment, add a dampner from a hydralic shop and install a pressure guage. You will find excessive flucuation in pressure readings is why the dampner is used.
I just had a fuel leak on my vehicle and it was the WIF sender. I already did the change 3 years ago and was to cheap to buy another one. I installed a pressure sender in that 1/8 pipe thread location and tried an electric guage. I just hooked the wireds up. Got 12 psi. Someone from the other forum said this MIGHT be what is in the fuel filter itself, not necessary what the engine has as the schrader valve is basically 50+ pressure on the secondary side of the fuel pump. I have not had any confirmation on ths pressure reading as I don't think anyone has ever thought of installing a pressure sender in the WIF sender location. Re: Fuel Pressure Gauge

that is correct the filter is on the low pressure side of the pump, after the fuel goes through the filter it goes back to the pump where it is raised to 50-70PSI, and into the heads.

like stated before use the schrader valve and a presure snubber for the guage the pressure spikes will kill a gauge within a year and then you will have one for fuel leak to deal with.

Re: Fuel Pressure Gauge

So if I do this will it the readings tell me if my oil pump is trying to die off? It seems like my oil pump might be wanting to die off, or its an injector? Thanks!

Nope, a fuel pressure gauge has nothing to do with your oil pressure. If you want to check the hpop oil pressure you'll need a 3000 psi glycerine filled gauge hooked up to the oil rails in the head.

Re: Fuel Pressure Gauge

you will need a #5 JIC fitting for the rail in the head, a HIGH pressure hose 5K PSI and a liquid filled gauge, also 5K.

Look in my webshots on the '97 I have an external HPOP gauge on the truck, last three pics I believe.

I also had one made at Napa for trouble shooting but the hose isn't long enough to reach out of the hood. same basic parts, fitting, hose and gauge.
