Gear Vendor under/overdrive?

Any of you guys have one of the Gear Vendor aux. underdrive/overdrive installed on your trucks or know someone that does? I'd like to know how they perform (especially when towing), they are claiming around 20% mileage increase with and gear over a 4.00.
From what I understand they are installed frequently on motorhomes.

except--from what people have said--you cant decelerate, with a heavy load--something about it breaking them, or they "unload" for freewhell. either not good--get the other brand--which slips mind at moment-----

I also don't think that they are available for a 4x4 truck.

The GV is available for the 4x4, but you can't use it while in 4wd.

the US Gear can be used in 4wd, though I don't know why you would.

go down to the towing section and enter Gear Vendor in the search field and there are more threads then you can read, including the US Gear.

Here's one,

any body have gear vendor or us gear over/under drive. experiences?

Talking GV Overdrive

I have a GV Overdrive on my CC It is awsome.
It knocks the RPMs down about 500.
I pull my camper with it is about 10,000 lbs and have no problem.

What was been mentioned about 4 wd is true it is after th etransfer case so it only changes the rear ratio.

how do you actually shift the gear vendor unit? I'm trying to envision going from 2nd to GV to 3rd. If you engage the GV during 2nd auto gear, how do you go about shifting to 3rd without wanting the extra od in 3rd as soon as you shift it??

Talking The hook up

I have mine on a switch on my shifter, like a 2 speed rear end switch [push/pull]
In is normal and out is OD.
You cant split lower gears , I mainly uset in 4th and 5th.
I use it kinda like a 2 speed rear in the upper gears.

I've had my GV for about 5 years now and still love it. After you use it a while, you learn how to shift it, and can get pretty good at it. You can shift it as smooth as your regular tranny with practice. As far as 4X4, there is a lockout that disengages it when you shift into 4X4, but really there is no need for it when 4 wheeling. GV tells you not to use engine brakes with the unit. I have have coasted down many hills with it engaged with no problems, however I don't use the engine for braking with it engaged. I compared both units when I was shopping, and the GV shifted smoother than the US Gear unit. US Gear can be used in 4X4, and also with engine brakes. However, due the their customer service with some of their other products,(Cyclone Fan) they will not get any of my money. GV claims they can hold 30,000 gross weight, and 800 hp?? Although I will never test this prediction, thats what I was told by the dealer that installed mine. A good installation and drive shaft work is important for a good working unit.
