Getting ready to try my D60 swap- what all do I need??

I've had my axle for awhile, but it's been too freakin' hot to get out there and work on it. Anyhow, I've got a 96 F350 gasser 3.54 D60, 95 F350 PSD front leafs, the track bar and bracket, and the F350 drive shaft. I lack the t-case yoke for the 350 drive shaft (anyone know a good place to get a used one??).

So, basically, trying to figure out what odds and ends I will need. I'm fixin' to get the poly leaf spring bushings. Can someone give me a basic rundown parts list of what I should have on hand before I start??

Thanks.

Re: Getting ready to try my D60 swap- what all do I need??

you have all the big stuff. I would just use your old front drive shaft until you can get the t-case output adapted.

Are you planning on rebuidling your d60 first? if you are, then you will need a rebuild kit. I got mine from 4WDFACTORY.com. I replaced both inner and outer seals and bearings.

you should replace your front shackle bushings and make sure that the actual shackle is not broke. they tend to split once in a while.

Last thing I can think of is to get a set of longer brake lines. The D60 will lift the truck about 1.5 inches but you may be fine with the existing ones. Never hurts to replace them while you are in there.

Brakes should be a direct swap..

Can't recall anything else..

good luck!

Re: Getting ready to try my D60 swap- what all do I need??

Are you going to rebuild the D60 first? Or are you just looking to bolt it on for now? For a bolt on, besides the springs, track bar, drive shaft, you'll need longer brake lines, new ubolts. Maybe a drop pitman arm. Grease, gear oil, new cotter pins... bushings for the track bar & sway bar.
Check with Bob at Powerstrokeshop.com for the tcase yoke. I asked him about one a while back and he said he could get one, but I have not ordered one yet.
If you have not already done so, start spraying some penetrating oil on all the nuts & bolts for the D60 and your D50. Being in AZ, hopefully you won't have much rust to deal with!

Re: Getting ready to try my D60 swap- what all do I need??

If your installing the stabilizer bar you can replace the link bushings, I replaced all of my spring bolts because of the Super Duty springs, but my stock bolts were in bad shape and would have needed to be replaced if I was using the 350 springs also when I did my spring bushings I drove a thin chisel into the spring wrap to open the spring eye up and the old bushings tapped right out, be VERY CAREFUL when you beat the chisel into the spring, because as soon as you hit the bushing the chisel may become a projectile. When I did mine thats what happened, I tapped the bushing and the chisel shot out and stuck in the shop roof(about 30' high )when I did the other three I put a big rag over the chisel and was good to go. Good Luck

Frank

Re: Getting ready to try my D60 swap- what all do I need??

What about shocks? I've seen no mention of them. I've got fairly new Bilsteins on it- can I reuse them?

I'm just planning on bolting it on right now. The axle's only got like 75k on it. I'll eyeball the brakes when I install it.

How long of brake lines should I get? Where's a good source?

Thanks,
Tony

I'm pretty sure your shocks will work unless you're doing the RSK at the same time. Your current brake lines should be okay too (if no RSK). If you want to upgrade to SS lines, any 4wd shop, Summit Racing, etc. has them.

Yeah, I'm beginning to think it's never gonna end!

You didn't have the u-bolt thingy for below the axle on the drivers side in your list. You got it though right? What about new bushings for the trac bar. With the 350 springs you brakes lines will be fine.

The pinion on the 60 is longer so measure the compressed length of both the 250 and 350 driveshafts, the 250 might be to long and bottom out when the springs compress.

Re: Getting ready to try my D60 swap- what all do I need??

Yeah, I do have the driver's side bracket-thingy you mentioned- forgot to list it.

Do I need to use the sway bar that's on the axle? I don't recall seeing them on other trucks...

Where's a good place to get the trac bar bushings? 4wd shop when I get the leaf spring bushings maybe??

Thanks again guys!

Tony
I got the trac bar bushings from Checker, they had it in stock. Or you could get them from wherever you get the rest of the bushings.I got mine from Desert Rat
Sway bar. I've never had one.

Re: Getting ready to try my D60 swap- what all do I need??

Cool- thanks Rodney. I'll check into that. I better start putting penetrating oil on the hardware here pretty quick too.

Probably be the weekend after next when I start the swap- I sure hope I'm not in over my head! =)

It's actually not that bad. I did mine in a day with no help. The worst part was getting the 50 out and moved out of the way. It just wanted to flop everywhich way.
