Got a line on a Kingpin D60, what about the rear blocks?

It's a burnt 89 F-350 diesel 4x4. I think I've got handle on replacing the front end, but how is my 97 F-250 HD PSD going to sit once I put the 350 springs under the front? I don't really want/need any extra lift, it still needs to fit through the barn door (and my wife doesn't like jumping in a dress..), but I don't want it to sit nose high either. I pull a 16' box trailer - maybe 500 lbs of tongue weight - a couple weeks a year.

Do I need the lift blocks from the rear axle of the donor truck?

Yep you're gonna need the 4" lift blocks from the donor truck's rear end as well as the longer u-bolts unless you are going to get some new ones.

Re: Got a line on a Kingpin D60, what about the rear blocks?

when i did mine, i left the rear blocks alone, it sat a little high in the front, but not bad
before the dana 60
After the dana 60

The difference in ride height is negligible, i used the F-350 springs, and these pics are with the same wheels and tires, 16x8's with 305/70 BFG's on em

Thanks, I'll grab'em and use'em if I need'em. The front springs are from an 89, so maybe they've sagged and the truck will sit level.

Dang... the server here at work won't let me view Webshots!!! I hate it when that happens.

Re: Got a line on a Kingpin D60, what about the rear blocks?

Grab everything if possible meaning:

-Springs
-Front driveshaft
-Front steering/ tie rods
-Calipers
-Brake hoses to calipers
-Yoke from transfer case to front driveshaft

Basically, think of it this why, unbolt the leaf springs and everything that comes with it.

Most important item: the trac bar and its bracket, don't forget.

Give me a PM and I'll give you my cell # and tell you what's involved and why you need certain items.

Few things, the calipers from your '97 are not going to work, they are bolt on. You could give your working '97 calipers in as cores or you can give the crap ones off the '89 truck. Getting my drift. Also the rotors will not work, they are a different diameter.

Basically the only thing you can transfer, is your hubs and spindles.

Read

http://www.pirate4x4.com/tech/billavista/60_front/

And don't forget page 2, you will learn alot from this site.

My truck is also a '97 and am in the process of installing a '94 D60

Re: Got a line on a Kingpin D60, what about the rear blocks?

I read the article on the website - that guy is really on a mission as far as collecting all the info on D-60s. I posted about this swap twice and didn't want to get too redundant (or repetitive) . I'm afraid too speak too soon, but I think I can get the whole front end, caliper to caliper, springs to driveshaft and yoke. My D50 is still rolling, so I'd like to rebuild what ever needs it on the D60 before it's under the truck.

My 96 F350 needs front rotors, will the 97 D50 rotors work?

Billy,

Ok, I remember you telling me this and i am at the point where everything is torn apart.

The Rotors on my D50 are the same dia. as the rotors on the 91 D60.

Wonder if they are different from 86-91? maybe they changed rotors in the later years? I am not sure.

the rotors are different sizes, roughly 12" to 13" after 91. the calipers also bolt on differently. bolt on, vs a slide in pin method.

Re: Got a line on a Kingpin D60, what about the rear blocks?

I think maybe that I wasn't clear. This is a separate question from the D50 to D60 swap. Will my 97 D50 rotors (which are good), fit on my 96 D60 (which has nothing to do with the front end swap, see signature). The rotors currently on my 96 350 are junk - the inboard surfaces are rusted pretty deep.

The D60 donor truck for the swap is an 89 F350. I would not assume that any brake parts would interchange.

Re: Got a line on a Kingpin D60, what about the rear blocks?

excellent - you're saving me money....

One more question. The 97 250 is a crew cab short bed. If I put in the 4" rear blocks from a 350, do I have to shim/block the center bearing? My wife has the truck so I can't look at it, but I would think I need to shim to keep the pinion to bearing distance correct.
Since they didn't make a 350 short bed, do I have a problem?

I dont know, i didnt use the 4" block and i have a extra cab short box, so i dont have a carrier bearing. My truck looks like a real big F-150

If both calipers are bolt on, they will fit.
