Also, did you all know that your auto insurance will fix windshields for free and not raise your deductable? I just did it on the car.
Insurance wont fix anything if you dont have it on the vehicle at the time And then when I do have it I have a $100 deductable. I just had one put in my Other 97 and it was $180 from Elite Auto Glass.

My insurance here in Mass is the same way. I had mine replaced last year. The very next day I was driving on the highway behind an 18 wheeler, it kicked up a nice size rock and it landed right on my windshield. It left a crack about the size of a half dollar. This post reminded me to call the glass company.

AAA of California auto policies offer a $50 deductible on broken auto glass (windshield or otherwise). Filing a glass claim won't affect ones premiums.

Something to keep in mind. All windshields are not created equal. The stock windshield is almost guaranteed to be stronger than the replacement, and high dollar car windows are higher quality than low grade car windows. It has to do with the quality of glass beads and how much heat they use when bending them into shape. Lower grade replacement windshields are often created from a sheet of low grade thinner glass and then bent into shape with less heat. The result is a winshield that is loaded with tiny micro fishers where the stress points are and they are more prone to failure. For instance a rock that hits your stock windshield may bounce off and cause a tiny pot mark where if it hits your replacement windshild it may crack it. That's what the windshield company told me anyway.

Check the fine print with your insurance company... They tell you it won't raise premiums, but the dollar amounts add up. If you exceed a certain dollar amount ($250 is common) in a set time period (usually 2 years) then it will raise your premium.
I've found the replacement glass tends to crack easier than the original glass. I've had originals for over ten years before a crack would run. Rarely get more than a year on any replacements I've had.
Maybe it's just me tho
