Gutted EBPV ?

I have owned my truck since new but am really getting into the mods you can do to these things now that I have some time and money. How do you gut the EBPV and where is it located? Thanks

the Exhaust back pressure valve is right after the turbo connected to the downpipe, and here is a "how-to" Gutting the Exhaust Back Pressure Valve - 1994-1997 Power Stroke FAQ

3/4 freeze plug, not 20mm, at least for me..

You may want to upplug it and try it in the coldest weather first to see if deleting it is right for you. Here is the plug.

Removing it will allow a better flow, resulting in lower temps, Maybe a little more boost.

50 degrees drop in egt's is the main reason people gut it.

The butterfly valve occupies 10% of the pipe its slightly restrictive. Its very easy to do should only take 1-2 hours max depending on how much trouble the 8mm 12points give you. I see your in maryland I can do it for a fee pm me.

Will this mod throw any codes to the PCM? Are there any sensors involved?

You can't tell any power increase by the seat-of-the-pants method, but there is about a 50F drop in EGT. Obviously, flow has to be better as the butterfly and shaft take up something like 22% of the flow area. For me, I also did not want the thing activating in ice and snow with my wife driving it (the truck would swap ends in a heartbeat on our mountain roads!). I gutted mine (pipe plug and tap method) and modified the pedestal to completely delete it (pic in sig, another in gallery). Cheers!
