Re: Gutting the EBPV.....

10mm i think, now you better check it first cause im having withdrawls from not being able to play with the truck. Not sure on the freeze plug, goto vatto zone and check them out. I forgot to add you need a buddy and a set of SMALL hands.

Re: Gutting the EBPV.....

Freeze plugs are supposed to be 20mm. But when I did mine I had to go back and get 19mm. May want to get both??...

Re: Gutting the EBPV.....

You can also use a carraige bolt if you are worried about the freeze plug falling out. That's how I did mine and it was definitely quick and easy. The bolt top barely sticks up inside at all and it's pretty smooth, but you have the bolt threads sticking out the bottom. It's really not a bad job if you've got something that can take care of the rivets.

If you haven't had your EBPV off before be ready to beat the crap out of that rear bolt. I suggest putting the wrench on so it's sticking straight up in the air, put a piece of pipe up to it sticking out 90 degrees towards the engine bay, and then get out the BFH. Works like a charm

Good luck, shouldn't take you more than 1-2 hours from start to finish with access to a die grinder.

Re: Gutting the EBPV.....

if you turn the ebphousing where the plug you put in is facing the front of the motor and up a little bit it will be a little easier to put back on. It will go on anyway as long as the bolts line up.

they're 8mm 12 pt cap screws (bolts), but my 5/16 ratchet wrench happened to fit, and made things a lot faster

Re: Gutting the EBPV.....

Just to be safe, I would either remove the arm on the EBPV actuator and plug the actuator hole, or seal around where the actuator arm comes out of the housing with JB Weld or similar. They're notorious for suddenly leaking after gutting the EBPV, and it's much, much easier to fix when the turbo is off!

Just my $0.02!

Good Luck!

Re: Gutting the EBPV.....

They take a 5/16 12 point. 8mm is too big and fits looser then the 5/16. For the freeze plug ask for a Dorman 555-012. Get 2 and drive both in and then Stake the outer edge of the hole so they cant come out and your set. Use a Die grinder to grind the Buttons off of the rivits Flush and then drive them out with a punch and then the shaft will come out. Drive the Bushing out also.
