Guys that done the D60 swap

Got a quick question for the guys that done the D50 to D60 swap. Did your EGTs go up approximately 100*-150* because mine did. Also my mileage went down slightly. I thought I might have a caliper hanging up. I checked all the rotors and drums with the infrared thermometer and they are within a degree or two with each other.

I don't know if the truck being higher has anything to do with this. I personally think so. I know with the D50, everything is tucked up, there is no big axle in the way.

Re: Guys that done the D60 swap

Left the truck at my friends shop to be aligned. I tried to do the backyard alignment but could not get it. The steering was off. So I brought it to my friends shop. I know the camber was out along with the toe. Set everything up with the alignment machine. He started doing the alignment on Friday at 9pm. I told him forget about it, it's too late to start. He told me I promised you that it will be done. Well he didn't have the right eccentrics on hand, I could have told him that. But he was persistant to get it done. Also the caster is out.

If I let the steering wheel go, it "rests" off to the left. In order for the truck to go straight, I have to hold the wheel straight.

I just looked at the front tires and they are starting to cup, something is off. Also after I make a turn, I have to manually bring the steering wheel back to center, which leads me to believe that the caster is out.

He ordered a master set of eccentrics to have on hand. On the left side, I had an old adjustable eccentric but he didn't like it because he's afraid that the clip might fall out.

I'm leaving tomorrow morning for Bowling Green, KY. We'll see how much damage I do to the tires and how much fuel I burn. I'm also running with no driveshaft, too lazy to put it in

Re: Guys that done the D60 swap

Billy,

Any luck with the Alignment taking care of it not returning to straight?

I finally fixed my Death Wobble I believe, now it goes all over the road.

Kevin

A new front end will really reveal the beast in a tired steering box that has fought the D-50 most of its life

A remanned box from your local shop of choice may help bring the beast back in control

Re: Guys that done the D60 swap

Brian,

I thought that too, but I don't think that is it.

I have adjusted it and it helped alot.
that was before I found the fixed for the Death Wobble and others had said the same thing, after the fix, it would be all over the place and then they put Stablizers on it and it would fix that.

So, I was just wondering lol

I just can't believe that Preloading the Kingpin Springs would fix it, but after looking at the diagrams and understanding how Kingpins work, I can see why and how Death Wooble comes really easy with Kingpins.

All it took was about 4 Fender washers per side on top of the spring
