Headlight Mod and seat ???'s

Ok I remember reading about a headlight mod that some people were doing and I am curious as to what this does for the lights. I am currently going thru lights like they are going out of style so I am wondering if that headlight mod has anything to do with that.

The next thing I am wanting to know is if anyone on here knows of somewhere I will be able to find a set of king ranch seats and consoles. I know that there has to be some wrecked trucks out there somewhere but I am unable to find one. Any help would be great. Thanks

Re: Headlight Mod and seat ???'s

You can find them here and there...but they cost some greenbacks. Cheapest I have found is right around 2500 bucks for front and rear....OUCH.

Re: Headlight Mod and seat ???'s

What bulbs are you running?

One mod for the headlights is to install a harness so the bulbs get full voltage, it makes them brighter than otherwise. You can also polish the plastic lens and gain a huge amount of brightness if they were scratched and yellowed to begin with. Also go to a quality bulb such as the Sylvania Xtravision (in the pink-and-black package) as mentioned here Daniel Stern Lighting If you read through the web site you will understand why the harness works so well and why some bulbe do not last.

One other trick is to use a diode with the harness to make a High beam/Low beam combination when the switch is in high beam mode.

Re: Headlight Mod and seat ???'s

Right now I am running the sylvania silverstars. They have been just about the brightest that I have found. Maybe I will just try those other bulbs and see if it makes any difference with longevity and still has the same brightness.

Spoke with him @ an insurance sale a month ago or so. He wanted $2500 for a complete Super Duty King Ranch interior. Probably not a terrible price, but more than I am willing to pay.

Re: Headlight Mod and seat ???'s

Chrome polish or I have used fine rubbing compound!! I used a buffer just keep your sense and hit it real easy use no pressure let the machine weight and the polish do it!!

The Sylvania SilverStar bulbs have a very short lifetime, because the filament is selected so as to be overdriven. This is necessary because the blue filtration coating "steals" so much light that only an overdriven filament can push enough light through the filter to be legal. The Sylvania SilverStar bulbs are also priced quite high. This is not because they cost a lot to make, and not because they're based on some exotic new technology. It's because the goal with this product is to take market share away from other overpriced bulbs like the PIAA line.

For best headlamp performance and best value, choose only bulbs with clear glass.

[/ QUOTE ]
Maybe this answers why you have short bulb life..the link to Daniel Stern Lighting has some very good information on performance lighting...take the time to read it.

Re: Headlight Mod and seat ???'s

I have heard if you touch the bulb glass with the oil on your hands it will create hotspots leading to short bulb life. Do you touch the glass of the bulb?

If this was directed at me, the answer is no I use a tissue to install the bulbs. So far I have never had a bulb burn out. I did not use Silverstars because of the information I read on the Danial Stern web site.

If directed to the original poster, that is true and very good information...never touch the bulb with your bare hands. If you have, then clean with an oil free solvent, alcohol would work.

Re: Headlight Mod and seat ???'s

Howdy,

Like Aljay mentioned, you can buff it out. I used the following kit with my drill and it worked out very, very well. I let a friend use it on his Plymouth mini van and it worked great!

All you need is a drill and maybe 20 minutes each side.
Buffing Kit from Sears

I used the brown compound first, but it wasn't working as well as I thought it should. I then tried the black and that worked very well. After that, I went over with the brown type again and after I was done, just rinsed the housing off.

Hope that helps.
JB

I used Meguiars plastic cleaner & polish to put a shine on the headlights, BigRed's was also done in this manner with good results.

The 2 bottles were bought at the local Advance/AutoZone parts store for pretty cheap & theres enough to probably polish a 100 headlights

Hey Brian,

What did you use to apply and buff the polish? Just a towel or a buffer?

Thanks,
