Im talking about if you put one on with no other mods
my friend that realy dose not know about our trucks is trying to tell me we will get 100HP off an intercoler install

far as I know, you will get a MARGINAL (<<maybe>> 20hp) increase in power, but maybe 200 degree reduction in EGT temps. That would be good for the towing crowd and engine longevity.

No you will not gain any HP with an I/C. You will loose a pound or two of boost (less power) but you will be able to keep it at WOT longer before you get to the 1250-1350 degree range. You shouldn't even need one on a stock truck.

If it was that easy we'd all have one wouldn't we?
So, at 70-75mph I am at about 800* (right at the exhaust port). If I accelerate it can jump to 1200 super easy and fast. What changes could I see if I put in one of those super duty intercoolers? Would it just stay cooler at 70-75mph, or will it actually keep it from rising so high and quick?

Both, It will run cooler (EGT's that is not motor temp) at Hwy speeds and it will slow down the temp increase you have now. Maybe someone can give you a more intelligent explanation instead of the 3rd grade answer I gave ya .

Steve, you will indeed gain very little power from an intercooler-only mod. This small power gain will be because of a cooler intake air charge. Keep this in mind also-you will be adding quite a bit of volume to your intake air charge, which will slow down your turbo response time (read as increased lag), possibly making the seat-of-the-pants o'meter think you actually have less power than before. On the good side, an intercooler will open the door for more mods!
Can't add much more than what has been said here, but I gained NO power with my intercooler install. As mentioned above, it does allow for lowering EGT's for other modifications though!
I found that my EGT's don't climb as high or as quickly when towing in mountain passes, albeit, with aftermarket injectors, you certainly CAN surpass what is "safe" if you don't watch your pyrometer!
I try to stay at about 1300 EGT or less while towing, but have surpassed it on many occassions, as there is just so much more pedal left with my injectors!
With the auto tranny, staying in 3rd gear (button pushed in) you can travel most hills easily at a higher speed with an intercooler, and run by your pyrometer...staying at whatever your "personal safe EGT is" and maintain it if you have the fuel. With stock injectors, I found the pedal to be on the floor, with little gain in speed while towing some of the 10%+ hills we have here in the west, whereas now I doubt I'm much past half throttle, going much faster than what full throttle was in the old days. I'm sure many of you with aftermarket injectors/intercooler find similar results.

This is all true.
I picked up 50# torque and about 15 rwhp going to a bigger CAC. We actually changed the CAC while the truck was parked on the dyno overnight and ran the truck the very next day. I guess my truck needed the cooler air really badly. I could feel no hp difference but the difference in egts was pronounced.

If you are looking for power an IC isn't where you are going to find it. With a stock truck you won't see any gains. You will see lower EGTs. They won't be much cooler at cruising speeds because you aren't makeing much boost so you aren't building a lot of heat in the intake. Where you will really see it is at higher boost levels. The more boost you make the hotter the air is and the more drop you will see in your EGTs vs. with no IC. On a highly modified truck such as Sun's where it is really hot and smokey you will see slight gains as he mentioned. The diesel world is completely different than the gas world where you will see more gains because the PCM will be adding more fuel to make the proper air/fuel ratio on a gas engine or the engine would burn up. On a diesel the PCM is adding all the fuel it is going to at a given boost level. So any extra or cooler air you are getting to the engine isn't going to do anything for you unless it is very hot and smokey to begin with.
I dynoed my truck back to back with the cooler and without all in a 15 min time frame, I gained 30 hp. The cooler the intake temp the more power your going to make.
Later,
AlanB
