I have a late 99 core engine laying in the shop with a good HPOP on it but its not a humped cover so I would like to remove it to check for bearing or bushings. Got the snap ring of but can't seem to get the cover off. Its not magnetic enough, and I can't get a pick behind it to pry out.
Those of you who have reomved them how did you do it?
Thanks
Tim

Wrapped my hand in duct tape (sticky side out obviously) and just stuck it to the little round cover and it came right out stuck to my fingers

Pretty inventive there Casey!! Another way is to put air pressure thru the feed line openings and that will bring it out of the casing....

Thanks Jim...I was going to use the air technique but wasnt near a compressor so I have to improvise...
Its comes out real easy with a little help from air or tape or whatever else you can think of...there is a little but of greasy stuff under that cover which is what is keeping it from just falling off...plus it can be "stuck" under the lip where the snap ring seats a little bit.
I felt pretty stupid about all the time I spent fooling around getting the cover off until I used the duct tape trick! I recently sent JOAT the oring # for the rear HPOP cover to add to the list. It also fits the turbo to Y pipe.

I am getting kind of worried about the o-ring...I took the cover off of my SD pump more than once and I don't specifically recall an o-ring...maybe it was there and i just missed it??? I have a small leak coming down the back of the motor from what I am guessing it either the Rear Mail or one of the rail plugs...Guess I should get in the valley and make sure its not leaking at the HPOP
duct tape worked and now I have a free 17 degree pump! We had a core engine sitting in the shop that we paided the core charge for after reomving it from a customers truck. it was a late 99 with 95k on the clock but due to a k+n it was dusted. flat rear cover but it does have the bushing rather than the bearing so I am in luck!

I'm usually good at oil leak locating, but I blew this one so I thought I'd share.....I had oil in the valley and drips hanging on the bottom of the HPOP and in the rear cover smap ring groove. This popped up after the first time I towed up a 10 mile grade. (read as sustained higher than usual ICP) I went throught the whole process of reseaching and replacing the HPOP rear cover oring to find out I missed the leak at the #8 o-ring boss plug on the top of the HPOP. Of course there was never a drop there anytime I looked. The moral of the story? The rear cover doesn't have any pressure on it so is very unlikely to leak. Look there last.

Thank you for sharing...that REALLY helps....I am in the middle of tracking down a fuel/oil leak and was worried it might be the back cover of the HPOP...I'll tear into a little tomorrow and see what I find...
