HYPERMAX OBS COOLER VS 6.0 INTERCOOLER ?

Does anyone know the size of a obs hypermax intercooler compared to a 6.0 intercooler? I was on their website and the obs cooler looks small I emailed hypermax a few days ago with some questions and they did not respond yet. I would like to install a cooler that wont hit my plow mount the hypermax looks like it will fit without a problem, but I want to make sure its big enough to keep my egt's in check. Also I was told the hypermax cooler inlet and outlets are 3" what are they on a 6.0 cooler? Also do you guys think with my set up a 6.0 cooler would be enough pulling about 8000 lbs? The only decent loads that I have pulled so far was 18' car trailer with about 4 cords of unseasoned firewood on it for about 40 miles temps were fine in my first program I think its a 40 tow program the only long haul was in the spring for Myrtle Beach bike week I had five bikes on the same trailer I estimated the trailer, bikes, tools and other crap to be about 6000lbs I ran in the same program and if I wanted to I could easily get above 1300* on 95 going about 75-80 mph if I got into it, so I know if I was pulling my fifth wheel my temps would be through the roof. Thanks again guys

Frank

Re: HYPERMAX OBS COOLER VS 6.0 INTERCOOLER ?

Frank, just taking a stab in the dark I would say that the Hypermax obs cooler, though smaller, would come close to the cooling capabilities of the 6 liter cooler. for a number of years it was the premier custom intercooler for the obs. Though smaller in surface area it is deeper. My good friend 97stroker man has stage ones and the HM cooler and has absolutly no problems with egt's pulling that damn big boat of his.. He'll see this thread and post up some details for you....where exactly is the plow mount in relationship to the bottom of the radiator? I got my 6.0 cooler higher than most and the bottom of it is level with the bottom of the radiator....The 6.0 cooler has one 3" x 3" boot and one 3" x 3 1/4" boot......

Re: HYPERMAX OBS COOLER VS 6.0 INTERCOOLER ?

Thanks Jim, on the top of my plow mount there is a piece of angle welded to the mount and it runs from the inside of one frame rail to the other and it is about the same level as the top hole in the bracket that you bolt the bumper to. I guess I could cut the angle out and lower it and install a 6.0 cooler not to mention I like the 6.0 cooler's price alot better also. I have seen alot of cooler install pic's on this site and I cant tell how far the cooler sits back behind the grill. If I look straight down behind my grill I can see about 3\4 to 1" of the top of the angle, now that I think about it I can probably cut the angle out and weld in a piece of flat bar in its place. I dont think I'm going to go crazy on mods just waiting for my idm from Beans then a 4" exhaust a late model hpop and maybe a fuel system and that should do it, so it would be nice if a 6.0 cooler would do what I need. Thanks again Jim

Re: HYPERMAX OBS COOLER VS 6.0 INTERCOOLER ?

Frank, as far as the vertical bar being replaced, you can eliminate it altogether. The bottom brackets that hold the ac condenser have to be modified as seen here: ....intercooler install... and you can tweek on the upper brackets of the condenser to get it closer to the radiator. If you'll look at my pics of the cooler install, you'll see that I have the big trucool tranny cooler in front of the 6.0 cooler and didn't have to cut on the grill to make room at all. Hope this info helps.....

By the way, with the 6.0 cooler, stage two's,dominator 66 4500 lb. empty enclosed 24 ft trailer, wildman extreme burn, 80 mph, 6% grade on Monteagle mountain in Tennessee, my egt's never got above 1000* degrees!!

IN EDIT: I was posting when you were! That is a stock early '99 y-pipe that I "customized" and polished up. The intercooler pipes are rewelded stock 7.3 pipes that were polished.....
