I saw this today and they look like just stock rods??? Anybody have any info on these??? That's some pretty bold statements if you ask me....

[ QUOTE ] Hypermax Ultimax Super Strength Forged High Alloy Connecting Rods
A set of 8 weight matched connecting rods with the center to center controlled within .002. Stronger that billett connecting rods and the powdered metal production rods currently being used
I think powersnortr (Frank) has been running those for a coulple of year in his motor and they have not failed yet. Herd he's hydrolocked the engine several times at high RPM's.

Jim, if I remember right when Luke started his "Redneck low dollar engine build" he first bought these HM rods, can't remember the exact details, but he was more than disappointed in the quality/ or extreme weight inbalance between the rods/ something to that effect and sent them back and went with another vendor......if I can find the thread I'll link it up, or maybe someone else remembers the details....I'm supposed to talk to Luke this evening so I'll get word of what happened straight from the source and which rods he ended up with. Obviously they are working darn good with the wringing out that Luke has put them through here resently... Thanks Wacker, forgot that it was Cat, They were way off on weight and had some very strange machine work right?
[/ QUOTE ]
To be honest, I won't comment here. My opinion is biased.
According to Cat and his machinist they were off. According to Hypermax they were fine, and they ended up inanother motor last I heard.......but this is all hearsay coming from me, so I would let cat tell it.

Hypermax told us that the rods they sent Cat were out of two different batches or sumthin like that and before they could make it right he sent them back, words from Max or Ron one. We have gotten three sets from them recently and they all looked good, have not tested them yet though.

I dont see that, With the way billets beef up the week point of the rod right below the wrist pin there is no way the Hypermax rod could ever be that strong even if made out of unobtanium.
That however doesnt mean they are not strong enough to hold the power we are putting down, just a little bit of strength goes along ways.

I agree with Bean - the material may be just as strong, but the design is the weak point. Material only gets you so far, the design of the rod allows removal of material in the right area's, and strengthening where it needs to be.
Well, like someone said above, Powersnorter has had real good luck with them, as does Cale. I think they are a pretty good option for those that are too tight to buy Billets.
Nick Gerard ended up with Catdiesels rods, and his machinest said they checked out fine. Nick will be using them soon.

How much difference is there in price? I really havent been following that part of it. I would think if you could swing the extra cash it would be a nice piece of mind.
