IDM Mod

Is this mod worth doing if you are already running a chip or are they not related to each other at all? For those who have done it were you able to feel a significant increase in power? I read somewhere that it could increase HP by 20. This seems like a cheap way to boost power but I am curious if its worth the trouble. Thanks

Re: IDM Mod

What the mod does is it ups the voltage to the injectors so they open up faster which is almost like an advance in timing. All engines sotck or modded from what I hear can benefit from this mod.

Re: IDM Mod

Definitely makes a difference. I actually can leave rubber on the ground now...maybe the mod wasn't such a great idea after all

Re: IDM Mod

It costs as much as your willing to pay.

Joe Servo was up to about 300 bucks a pop before I reverse engineered it and posted the instructions (which were then confirmed by a few others in the know).

Now its about a 50 dollar mod for time and shipping.

Works best on IDM 100 and IDM 110's. Not as noticeable on IDM-120s (newer SD trucks tend to be 120's)

Now is that because the 120's are better to start with?

Re: IDM Mod

100, 110, and 120 are basically the output voltage of that IDM. So an IDM 100, puts out around 100 volts. An IDM 120 puts out about 120 volts.

The IDM mod gets you up to about 135-140 volts.

So, on an IDM 100, thats a 35 to 40 volt increase. Quite significant.

Whereas an IDM 120 is only about a 15 to 20 volt increase. Not as big a jump, and may not be as noticeable "seat of the pants" change.

Re: IDM Mod

No that is because the mod increases voltage to the injectors to a theoretic by electrical theory that is to around 140 volts, 120 to 140 is obviously not as big a change as 100 to 140. I had the idm 100 and noticed signifigant gains. I think that the reason the SD trucks went to the higher voltage is to make calibration specs as far as timing goes, more set in stone, the injectors will respond faster to inputs, to help to compensate for a better need for precise timing control for the "split shot" fuel injection. JUST speculating on why they did it though.

Re: IDM Mod

Thanks FF and JDB... I knew the voltage was 140 on the modded IDM's and I should have figured out what the 100, 110, and 120 meant. Thanks for clearing that up for me. That has been a mod I wanted to do for a while and I hope to get both of my trucks done in the spring.
