IDM modification

Just finished the IDM modification. It wasn't too bad to do. The cover was sealed on really really well so it was a pain to remove. I used a Radio Shack butane soldering iron to remove the old resistor and install the new one. The size of the soldering iron didnt seem to be much of a problem like I had read it might be. The only problem was heating both ends of the old resistor at the same time in order to remove it. Check out my webshots for some photos.

All in all the modification did seem to work. There is a very slight notice in increase of power and like everyone else says, it does run smoother. Its not as noticable though as the 10k mod but I think that it's a worth while modification for just 10 cents.

Re: IDM modification

No need to heat old resistor I just snaped it in half, then installed the new one. My 97 has the 100idm and also is a splitshot motor (cali) like yours, but is in a van and the mod is well worth it!!!

Works Great!!!

Re: IDM modification

Anyone have a link to instructions? I checked the tips and tricks and did a few searches with no luck.

its a pretty easy do it yourself mod if you are comfortable with a soldering iron....its not as hard as alot of folks make it sound...just get the right parts, and make sure you dont splash alot of waste around while your in there...Joe sure did make this popular and did alot of research on it, and I think its worth the time, should result in better throttle response at the minimum...

this is the start:

Powerstroke Diesel IDM mod

The 6.0L doesn't have an IDM per se. It's called something else that slips my mind right now, but it's a completely different animal.

You're going to have to wait on some smart person like JoeServo to invent the (IDM) mod for the 6.0L
