Initial start-up = blue smoke

Hi All,

Hope you are enjoying your weekend.

Well it is beginning to get cold and I noticed that when I start my engine first thing in the morning blue/white smoke is emitted from the tail pipe. Up to the last week or so, this has not happened. It does not smoke for the rest of the day.

I understand this is a sign of aging injectors and perhaps eminent failure. Is this true? Or am I looking at other symptoms. My fuel filter is clean, no black oily evidence on filament, no rubber parts on my FPR screen. I have not done a crankcase oil test, so I do not know if I have fuel in my oil, but my oil stays "clear" for about 2000 miles, then gets black. This has been normal for the life of the engine.

Should I be calling Bean or Swamps soon , or calling The_Alaskan for a tow .

Thanks Pierre

Re: Initial start-up = blue smoke

Since the temp is dropping I would first check the GlowPlug Relay, then the glow plugs.

Re: Initial start-up = blue smoke

That sounds pretty normal for cold starts. Check your glow plugs and glow plug relay if they are all good I wouldn't worry about it to much. Not a sign of bad injectors just a sign of cold starts.

Re: Initial start-up = blue smoke

Thanks guys! I'll go through the GP system. I remember I changed the GP's about 50,000 miles ago, but they were AutoLites. Seems they do not have a good deputation on this Site. I'll try to find Bosch or other.

Pierre

Re: Initial start-up = blue smoke

change them to BERU immediatly, if the autolite goes your screwed, Ford sells them as well as the other autoparts stores , just open one up and look for the name, they are the only ones to use.
