I found my boast leak the Intake plenums need to be resealed.
Two questions
1: I what year Intake plenums will fit the 97 heads and the early 99 Y spiders> If I have to take them off anyway. I might as well get ride of the reducer boots and stock Intake plenums??
2: Do I use the gray sealer or what works best. To reseal them?
Thanks
Curt

I use the IH grey sealant on the plenums, not much chance it will leak, as a matter of fact I've ruins two sets of plenuns trying to remove them after they were sealed.
I've no idea what size boots you need with the 99 spider.
Cratos, I was wondering if you have changed out your boots on the intakes? Mine are in need of changing, BAD! I still have my stock boots which I think are still 2.5 diameter.

If you want to go ahead and use the 3" superduty plenums....(it does open up the area for more volume, but you might never feel that you have increased power by doing so..), you can get the 2 3/8" inch x 3" inch boots here: http://http://www.turbohoses.com/Transition.htm they are pricey...but if you ever decide to upgrade to a larger turbo then you don't have to replace the plenums again....They may actually help with more air....I did them on the motor build and already had the d-66 so there was no way to see what change they might make....
What size intake hose does the spider take? Late 99 and up and all the aftermarket aluminum plenums are 3 inches. All the 3" plenums are 10 bolt, the same as your 97.
3 star
the way I look at it there MUST be some restriction from the E-99 spider ( form the intercooler) to the stock Plemnums any time you neck something down it has to slow thens down. are you still happy with your D-66? I'm thinking of maybe doing it this summer.

I still have the stock intake plenums on my truck. I don't know this for a fact but I would assume that you will need to have a larger than stock turbo to be able to tell a difference in power. The stock turbo only flows so much air and I bet the 2" tubing is able to provide sufficient flow.
I have also heard that you can bend the crap out of the intakes getting them off if you are not carefull because the silicone holds so well. Some people say it's not worth the effort to take them off easy and reuse them. They aren't too expensive through International. If this is the case then I would get the 3" SD plenums for sure.

I would do the 3" superduty plenums. They are cheap enough and then you don't have to worry about upgrading them again. I have several sets of intakes (all OBS) that were taken off and didn't have a problem damaging them. Just can't muscle them off is all.
I would go to Intercooler Pipe Fabrication - Silicone Intake Systems Auto Parts for your boots. They are mostly an import site. But they have great prices. I just ordered some new boots and T Clamps from them for my intercooler reinstall. Shipped day after I paid (which was Sunday). Got them 2 days later.

Where do you get a 3" intake spider? I have a banks kit and would like to ditch the stock intakes.
Tha late 99 and up stock y-pipe is 3". that's the only 3" available. it will not line up to a stock obs configured turbo....
Cratos, got to remember we are dealing with positive pressure boost, not normally asperatied motors....the 2 inch ID, early 99 y, is not that much of a restriction from the 3 inch cac pipe/intercooler system. Look at the tube coming off the compressor side of the turbo feeding the intercooler...it's not 3 in.........
The D-66? almost 40,000 miles and I get a smile on my face everytime I start the truck......If Bean had all the sophisticated testing equipment that the Garrett's and the TN turbo's had, I guarantee you that the cfm's that this turbo produces would knock their socks off!! it spools ever so slightly later than the stock turbo ....so sudden 1/2 to full throttle pedal will produce smoke in the performance settings on your chip until it lights, but when it does..........holy hell!
and it is a towing truck owners dream! The egt's with an intercooler are awesomely low.....much has been negatively said about it useing the stock center section, but as long as it is used with an intercooler and maximum of stage three injectors, (230cc and below, it will live a long life and make the owner keep perma-grin.......
