Off Topic a bit : RealbadLarry if you live in Victorville check out Valley Transmission when your tranny goes. You can get some decent upgrades done and not break the bank.

why is the shop going to swap in a 1.00 housing instead of a .84 now if they say that is what you already have?

People say the diffferent ic's suck, but as in all things it depends on what you are using it for.

The ats ic is the most efficent in terms of user friendleness. It uses a small core that mounts behind the bumper and lots of piping to route around the core support. So it is the easiest to work with.

IC like the banks an Hypermax use a large core that is more time consuming to mount, and you have to cut holes in the core support, but they use shorter runs of piping.

with an air-to-air cooler the most efficent is a large surface area. a large surface 2 core will be more efficent then a small surface area 4 core. Also the more/longer run of piping used increases lag vs. short runs(length of time from charge air from compressor outlet to intake).

so depending on usage it may work for some but not others. If your just doing some mild increases the ats should work fine(and save you some cash), but if your going for some big upgrades like large cc inj, big turbos, etc, you would exceed the smaller cores cooling capability reducing its efficency.

you also have to consider everyone is in a different geographic location, so what works for some may not be ideal for others, steeper grades at lower elevations vs, heavier loads on slight grades, etc., etc.......

Thanks for the input on different IC's! I won't be doing many more power upgrades to the truck. I just need to keep the egt's under control with the way the truck is now. I talked with the shop owner and what it appears happened was that my truck being the last of the HD for 1997, he oops'd and thought it was a new body style superduty, which he said does have a 1.0. Once we got the OBS motor locked down, then the 1.0 housing made much more sense than going from a 1.15 to .84. I sure hope we are on the same page now. I haven't had anything done yet so I am still ok if I need to change anything. Thanks again

Hypermax has a smalled IC for the obs as well. Last I checked the entire kit was about $1400. Works well with the stock turbo and up to stage 1s.
