Power Strokes 1994-1997 Upgrades and AftermarketUpgrading or adding OEM or aftermarket equipment to your 1994-1997 Ford F-Series with Power Stroke engine.
I have the motor out of my truck and I thought it would be a good time to install an intercooler and tranny cooler. I have heard good things about using a 6.0 intercooler but i'm not sure to get one of those because i dont know how much boost they can handle. I want an intercooler that can handle big boost numbers for furture upgrades. I know other options are the 7.3 superduty intercoolers as well as the banks techi cooler. I know that spearco makes a superduty upgrade intercooler for the 7.3 as well as the 6.0. I'm not sure where to look...i'm trying to avoid installing a cooler that will have to be upgraded again in the future. I just want the best cooler for my money...what do yall think?

If you're pretty sure you will be making big boost #'s, I'd say go for a Spearco...

X2 on that: Spearco. But I read that your are planning to add a 6.0 trans cooler, maybe with the Spearco it wont fit, I really dont know, just a bump in that for you.
i used a 6.0 inter cooler took tanks off and made new aluminum ones welded them on to intercoooler and installed in my truck with new motor almost completed it was less than buying a spearco

Actually there are about 4 to consider for a HP rig...
Diesel Innovations Big DI IC
Spearco 7.3 (is the larger size of the 6.0 worth the fit up hassles?)
Spearco 6.0
Hypermax Tapercore (Cary T used sucessfully and has commented on)
At the same time, I beleive it was Thunderstruck that made big HP on a stock 6.0.
Masami is always a thinker but not one to boast, take a look at what he has....

Isnt the hypermax tapercore the same as the spearco? or not? and what is the diesel innovations one? i'm a little confused. with the spearco, would it be better to go with the 6.0 or the 7.3 option?

How much boost is too much for the stock 6.0 what are your plans number wise.. ?

i would expect that one day I will make those boost numbers. right now i will be ok. I'm just trying to determine the best cooler for the money. Its also important to me that I am able to fit a tranny cooler in up front as well. Between Banks, Hypermax, Spearco, and Diesel Innovations, I want to know the best one. If i call up the vendors for these coolers they will all tell me theirs is the best. I'm trying to get an unbiased opinion.

and what about banks? is ther cooler any good in comparison to spearco, hypermax, diesel innovations...etc?
I have read in several forums that the only of the few good things that Banks has (for the price) is their IC , but the 6.0 IC is very comparable and cheaper, so thats the difference for me, and thats the reason I bought a 6.0 IC, because Im convinced that it will work as well as Banks IC. Now if you are planning to go more thant 50 PSI, maybe you should look for the Spearco IC. IMHO.
I have been looking at the new subzero intercooler from www.atsdiesel.com

The ATS KIT listed for the 94-97 trucks is the same old kit with a new name. It is a nice kit for stockish trucks. Cary T actually make some pretty decent power with one.
The ATS Sub Zero cooler kit for the 99 up trucks is a nice piece, but it probably compares very closely to the other 3 I listed. Fit up and price would be the questions for me.

I think you should say what is being done to your motor....and what turbo/turbos your using, and injectors, fuel system....etc....
the 6.0 cooler will handle 40 psi easy, if your looking for 60 plus, better get a DIIC or comparable....if your seriously upgrading now for big power, why screw around with silly upgrades....?
