Just curious.
Being that our engines are totally electronically controlled, would it be possible to program them to shut down specific cylinders when not needed, i.e. - running as a v6 or I4 at sustained speeds? I know that there are many cars and trucks that already do this, I think the first was Cadillac back in the '80s. Would cam timing have to be changed for it to work? I guess maybe because the unused cylinders still have compression, the power of the live cylinders might be sapped. Might mean better fuel mileage.
